Reversing Mechanism - Meccano Steam Engine

Can anyone provide a photograph, sketch or description of the reversing  mechanism on the original Meccano steam engine?

Thanks

John

Hi John,

If you look on Wallace's website and scoll to the bottom you can see a photo of the mechanisim detatched from a Meccano engine.
Not sure it will provide you with enough detail but it's a start.

I can take pics of mine if that didn't help. What is it you want to see?
John

Thanks Tony,  Wallace's website images give me a few clues to work with.

Thanks for your offer Nick.
I have built a small 'wobbler' type steam engine that I can 'build in' to Meccano models-as shown below. ( Sorry about the focus) I thought it would be nice to be able to reverse the engine by changing over the steam flow as in the original Meccano engine rather than having to build a gearbox.

Rather than re-invent the wheel  I thought I would find out how Meccano did it.

Thanks

John

Hi John

Nice engine

I could get some more pics of the reverse mechanism if you would like. I haven't taken much notice of it on the 1929 Mec engine, but assume it would be much the same as a Mamod.

Ahh John what you want is pictures of an se2a reversing mechanism or a Roadster or any other Mamods that use a similar method.
Has anyone got a good photo of that to put up?
John

Thanks guys.

A drawing or photograph of the operation of the reversing valve from any or all of these engines would be would be great.

I am looking for some thing that is easy to make and compact. From Wallace's images it looks like a rotary valve is used to direct the steam to the proper port to make the engine run forwards or backwards.

Will grab pics or sort something tomorrow for you hopefully
