Thoughts please...

I am thinking of doing something a long the lines of 'STIA in the South' at Amberley Working Museum for next year's event calendar. Of course it wouldn't have that title. I'm hoping to meet up with the Museum Director at some point and see if he would give me approval for the event. I will then send out invites to the well known Toy Steam traders such as Steam4Fun and Forest Classics, then you get the general jist of it.

Would people from here be interested in coming if it got approval? Tell me of your thoughts and opinions (good or bad...)

Simon
tmuir

I would love to go to any event like that but its a little too far for me to come.

If you do go ahead with it I would also send invites to some Meccano clubs as Meccano and toy steam goes together so well.

That is a thought. I know someone who regularly attends shows in the South with a Meccano display

3 and a half hour drive or more from Nuneaton so count me out....

Just too far for me

Come MM, I used to drive longer than that just to go to work on Monday morning a few years back.
But to be fair on Mondays we had a late start 9:30am instead of 7:30am.

It might be a two day event. If that were to persuade you?
Chris

I'd be interested.
SillyBilly

It's a great idea Simon, but then, surely the Old Kiln Toy Steam event is really the STIA in the south, pehaps it'd be better placed towards the end of the year so you don't cross paths?

The idea was for it to be at a different time to all the other major Toy Steam events

Would that be the Sutton in Surrey? If so the Museum is roughly 50 miles from Sutton
James

If it's in like back end time I might be able to go...

By back end do you mean before christmas? Recently the Museum has been advertising out of season events so it might be in November...
James

LOL you don't know what back end is

Aye, sort of November/October time like. when we don't have alot to do! Although I ain't keen on the swear word "S**thern" being used in the title

You can stay over at Amberley if you wish. Either in one of the buildings (if there is room!) or a tent, car etc.
Mamodman123

Aye, November/October isn't good for me. I usually go away around that time

Enter your village/nearest town in the 'From' box, and Amberley Working Museum in the 'To' box:

http://www.rac.co.uk/web/routepla...lid=leftNav&lpos=routeplanner

Then when it comes up with Confirm locations, select:

Museum
Amberley Museum
New Barn Road
Arundel, West Sussex
BN18 9 (UK)

That's perfectly big enough MM, even to big. You could sit on the back of a Mamod SW1 on the M25 and still keep up with the traffic in the "fast lane"

Sounds good Si, only 35 miles for me

Total distance: 234.71 miles, 377,7 km
Estimated total journey time: 5 h 5 min
... if you're lucky with traffic: 4 h 36 min
... if you're unlucky with traffic: 5 h 40 min

James, considering I would have to make the same journey time to get to STIA and that is only one day I wouldn't think it too bad if you stayed the Saturday night
Mamodman123

There's an offer you can't refuse Jimberino
James

Sleep in the same room as you MTA? As long as I have my back to the wall

Naaaaa only joking mate
Sandman

Jeez.

Jimbo and MTA all night.

What a thought.

MTAs mum would have to scrape the soot off the ceiling with all the steam talk that went on.
johnreid

Might be a good time for her to change the wallpaper as I am sure it would all be steamed off.

Nah, don't believe in wallpaper. When you need to remove it it takes an age to do so, plus you can vary the colour if you use paint

Paint is for the lower class
johnreid

One uses Steam to remove wallpaper, if there is enough steam it comes off easy.

LOL I hope MTAs place has good plaster.

I bet they will have a lot of fun, if they do not burn the place down.

Simon, of course I would attend, but no sharing rooms!!

I would commute and maybe do both days too! !

2hours 50 mins-average
2hours 34 mins-lucky
3hours 9 mins unlucky
SillyBilly

I'd come if i was in he area, it'd have to tie in with a school holiday though.

Thoughts on a title for the event please! Bearing in mind:

It is a toy steam event including all companies, so it cannot have one specific company in the title.

It is likely to be held in the autumn, at Amberley Working Museum.

Suggestions please! Make sure they are clean as well
MamodFan

Chalk and Steam

Toyshop Steam

Festival of Toyshop Steam

Southern Steam

Steam Toy Extravaganza

I'll have another think later

Once those in the Office have appointed a new Marketing Director, I will take my idea to him/her. I will speak to Forest Classics in early February at Brighton ModelWorld, and email those whom I do not see in the meantime. I will be seeing Chas on March 22nd, so will talk to him then about it
MTA

Those in the office have appointed a new Marketing Director, so I hope to speak to her the very next time I am at Amberley.

Colin Laker has very kindly put a little bit about the event written by myself into a new part added to the S.T.E.A.M. magazine, which will be news on Toy Steam in general such as events.

The Spa Valley Railway used to be the:

Tunbridge Wells and Eridge Railway Preservation Society

For those that don't get it, it becomes T.W.E.R.P.S.
fcrammond

Let me know when you have a date sorted and I'll add it to my Steam Toy Events list.
