All good info, easier said than done though. I have had a tremedous amount of trouble with prop shafts, I have 20 plus boats.
Do you have a small elecrtic motor that you could couple to the shaft and get it turning well and then re-couple the steam unit back up, with the better alignment. Also is the rubber tube a good fit onto the two shafts?
Good luck

Hi,
That's right, although as you would understand not all running. I don't have allot of time, so they are in various states. Also I have a fasination for wooden models form the 50's and 60's, so they are not stunning scale models and most second hand.
I like playing with the innards and radio ect, when I get the time. I really like messing with an old heap and making it sail again. I have a Sea Scout model came from a compost heap. Sails well now.
Also I have no steam boats and hung my nose for so so long I have plans to sell an amount of stuff and change / alter the collection, but all in good time.
I also have interest in old tin boats and have a collection of Suttcliffe boats, including pop pops for the 1930's.

brilliant stuff Richard, its running around very elegantly!
I'm afraid I now say no to young children asking for a go on my boats. I used to say yes, but after one lad nearly stacked a tug in to a concrete wall, I have always refused. I also find groups of young children bicker among themselves as to whose turn it is next. This as you can imagine is annoying.

It would sure be a shame to see that one get swamped by improper operation.
That is a nice shallow area, the water looks so clear too.

Sails quite nicely but looks a bit choppy, cannot wait for the sequal.

Richard and Andrew...nice launch and excellent seamanship on the part of the RC controller.
I bit my cheek a couple of times for fear one of those little "chops" was going to climb aboard!!!
Performed flawlessly!!!

Thanks Rog,
But spoken a little too soon. Although he blames himsellf there was nothing he could have done. If you listen to the audio it was a freak gust in what is usually a very sheltered area.

I believe it is the nature of the beast, I have friends that do RC boats and they alway have a raft, and a snorkel when they sail their RC prides unless they are at a shallow pool

When my son, aged 10, and I first learned to fly radio controlled airplanes, we finally soloed after 2 months of training with an instructor. We broke a few props, bent some landing gear but had such a grand time taking off, looping the field and landing over 20 times in total. We were on our own, late fall day, late in the afternoon. My son was at the controls of what would be the final flight of the day...sun caught his eye for a moment, plane was down 8 inches into the dirt in seconds. He blamed himself, but I reassured him that if we'd left the house that morning knowing we would destroy the plane by day's end...I would still have left. We flew it, we bonded, we picked up the pieces and built 5 more after that.
My son is a real pilot - instructor now, leading a group of students on a flight from Indiana to the Florida keys for spring break as I type!!! It was worth losing the "Sturdy Birdie" that cold Nov. afternoon...I still have it's tail fin mounted over my workbench
...sniff, sniff.
So Richard and Andrew...pick it up, drain it out, flush with clean fresh water and start drying the parts. My guess is even the receiver will work again...heck, cell phones that go for a swim sometimes rise again!
cheers,
Rog

WOOPS
yep its not a nice feeling, I myself having capsized someone else's tug before (ironically while trying to push it in with my own tug!)
As Rog say's, stick the RC gear in a warm place. Check the steering servo works without feeling as though rubbish is in it, and it should go still.
But wow, what a dramatic turn turtle!
