I just couldn't resist the urge...The parcel...
Contains a box...
A brand new steam engine (number 008)...
Test firing the burner...
Ah! Think the wick was a wee bit long, so blew it out and trimmed it down.
Burner under the engine, no going back now...
It works! (got a bit excited)
I can't believe it's so quiet. It's precision machined perfection, I bet it's much better than the original Mamod. The sound that you can hear on the video is water dripping out of the safety valve and fizzing in the burner. There is a gentle pussy cat purr of the engine whirring away.
No steam leaks or any other problem, all the paint held fast and it started with just a few flicks of the fly wheel (after waiting for steam to emerge from the safety valve.)
So I am very happy with my purchase and MamodFan has done a wonderful job and I'll definitely be waiting eagerly for his next creation.
More videos to follow...

That trully is a work of art.
I raise my glass to you for having the guts to fire it.
I enjoyed every minute.
Thanks a mill for sharing.

I thought it might take you lot longer than this, i to was surprised how quiet mine was. the safety valve will seal after a couple of heat cycles it needs to bed it, if not tighten up the safety valve nut a little.

Wow running sweet as a nut MC!
Really gutsy to fire it though I knew someone would crack under the pressure!
First one to fire it too!
Nice one! one of the greatest toy steam engines to have been built

I noticed it was adjustable.
Seriously great work, I am very happy. Hope your venture turns out well, how many do you need to sell to 'break even'?

F**k it. I've decided to steam my MM2 Twin at the shows I go to, just seeing how quiet they are must surely place it as the best runner in my collection!

Ohhh ! I’m really happy someone’s done it! I was so afraid these little beauties were going to be snapped up, locked away in closets only to be seen again for sale, MIB, on next century’s equivalent of ebay!!
Verdict: They run just as well as they look

Michael, thanks for two things:
1) firing the MFtwin, demonstrating for one and all that it DOES work under steam pressure with a fire in it's belly
2) giving the rest of us one more reason why we should buy up Mamodfan's inventory so he hurries up and moves onto his next offer!!!
cheers,
Rog

Seriously nice bit of engineering there. Fit and finish certainly appear to beat that of its ancestors. There might just be a brand new line of collectors engine on the market

They are called steam engines and not shelf engines so it had to be done.
I won't be buying any unfired Mamods on eBay (and paying a premium) as it I know I won't be able to resist temptation.

Wow! I really enjoyed watching these videos.
I have ordered one of these engines and it was shipped earlier. It should arrive in about a week.
As you did, I will be firing mine up right away.
Do any other forum members that own these twins fire their's up?
I am also going to need some help with the burner, how much wick do I use?
Thanks!

Did you order the twin wick burner or just the single wick? Mine had the single wick version as that was all that was on offer at the time.
I'd just cut the wick off level with the tube (it doesn't have to be exact) and see how you go. It's simple enough to raise it if you've not got enough speed, you can just blow it out pull it up with some pliers and relight.
I'm sure you'll be delighted with yours.

I got the single wick. If I ever wanted the 2-wick, I could probably order it at a later date.
How much wick do you put down inside the burner?

Push the wick until it stops at the bottom of the tube and have no more than a couple of mils above the tube.
Too much and you will have a raging inferno.

Michael you're a true trailblazer. Wonderful watching those vids! I had to turn
up the speaker volume but you're right, they do purr. What a fine product from
Ian of MF Steam!
