Can't beat the price, that's for sure. Looks like it was someone's fun metal shop project.

Yes a nice T E Haynes school project engine from the 1960s.
I have a hot air engine built from one of the other Haynes school project books.
Can't beat the price and it cleaned up nicely

That looks really great, it never ceases to amaze me what a difference is made with a bit of a clean and fresh paint.
Are the Haynes school project books still in print?

The design is fine, it's the execution that can be a problem. Apart from minor things like blocked steam pipes and unsoldered joints mine suffers from the fact that practically no "right angles " are actually 90 degrees and as a result all the bearings are out of line. I suppose that is what education is actually about. I do hope his second project benefitted from the errors he made on the first. Still it does look good polished up. SWMBO actually permits in in the living room.

Looks nice all cleaned up. I like it, not just for it being an engine, but for what it represents; This is the kind of thing
all the real boys made in shop class when I was in school. Not steam engines in particular, (although those too), but
good solid metal, made into something either fun or useful, by boys. It's cool.

Thanks alot guys
very interesting pulling these old engines apart and seeing what they used to put them together, yes there is still metal workshops at school as i have just left and we made steam engines but no boiler a bit of a shame but oh well

I heartily agree with this, Dean. It seems like people are too busy staring at their "smart phones" and typing nonsense like "LOL" and "OMFG" to actually DO anything. I hate to sound like an old crank but there, I said it anyway.
