Only in EnglandYesterday a coach was pulled up on the M6 and the Motorway shut.The reason? A passenger had one of those electronic cigarettes in his bag (the ones that make you think you're smoking) and it started to smoke. The result:- 17 Police cars,8 Police vans,13 Fire Engines,4 Ambulances,2 Bomb Disposal units,1 shut motorway,48 terrified passengers moved off the coach by armed police and a bill for................................. £6million 
It's nice to know how our tax is spent. |

48 passengers, 17 police cars, 8 vans, 13 fire engines and only 4 ambulances?
A coach can't carry a bomb large enough to justify 13 fire engines. If all passengers where terrorists then no one knew there was a bomb, so there could only be a few terrorists on the coach at most, not justifying 25 police vehicles. If the coach would carry even a very small bomb, 4 ambulances wouldn't have been enough. Someone must get his priorities straight. Conclusion: waste of tax money. |

Some fellow traveller became a little bit flustered and he found a lot of buddies (behind the emergency number) who are flustered routinely. I am sure all participants had a field day.... At least the fault in the emergency plan became obvious and they will do better next time. No training can replace real life...

I have been "home" in Britain for two weeks and saddened by what i see.
I recall when living in London and seeing and hearing the IRA bombings, we did not give the police the powers they now have to respond with such hysteria. I was in Olympic Portland last week and saw the fortress yachting facilities. Very bizarre! But more importantly the stories of corruption and monopolisation of economic opportunities that came with the olympics, then the rip off of volunteers left me with a sour taste. Great people though!
