Our new "pet"

Every time I go outside now, there is this here pheasant! It eats beet out our yard, sleeps with the sheep, and eats with them too! It never goes further than the end of our field

Some pics coming up in a mo

Yep, it's a wierd pet ain't it?
Graham-Jilly

hurry up with the pics
James

Sandman

That would look great with new potatoes, a nice dark fruity sauce and some carrots and peas.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Steve_S

Sounds like it's found a cushy place to be... plenty of food, and sheep too! Why would it go anywhere else?
James

Aye LOL!

It's a rate fine bod   I like pheasants!
MooseMan

I like pheasants too.....bloody stupid birds, but very very tasty....bit of cranberry sauce, yum yum.

If you are feeling at all queasy, stop reading now.....my grandad used to say that you should "hang" a pheasant until the feathers fell off and you found maggots on the floor below it....

A step too far if you ask me.

Jeez Odilon.

I remember my dad telling me that and I didn't believe him.

He told me that in all the well off land owners kitchens, that was indeed the way they prepared pheasant.
James

Aye I've heard that before aswell!
Graham-Jilly

great looking pet there James
not into eating game birds myself they have a funny tast I recon
James

Naa I don't eat them either!
Reid

this one will taste like beets, though.

and if you do it right, it will also have that extra bit of meaty protein afforded by maggots.

inasmuch as the maggots will be eating beet-flavoured pheasant flesh,
the maggots' leavings will also taste sweet.

feed it cranberries too instead of waiting for the garnish.

so! when is dinner?  have you told the prime guest yet?

Wallace

Say Pheasant Plucker 10 times really fast........

Can you do it without saying something else.

Sorry, off topic, sorta, but nice pet James.

What are you going to do if you find chalk from your sheep on the pheasant.

Oh and why does the word pheasant look wrong
Stilldrillin

I think I`ve got his brother in my freezer!

We ate his sister last week.

They taste fine to me, are you talking of the unlead shotted versions GJ
they aint as good without a good peppering of lead
MooseMan

Somebody told me the other day that lead tastes good, and that the Romans used it to take the edge of their wine.....kind of explains the way the Roman Empire went, doesn't it??

DISCLAIMER: DO NOT TRY TO TASTE LEAD IT IS POISONOUS!
erikl

you should feed it raisins that've been welled in rum, that way you can easily catch it and it might even taste better
MTA

We used to have a 'pet' pheasant at Amberley! He (named Fred) and his wife (Wilma ) used to walk into the rail exhibition and sit on the engines Although Fred died recently
