P.S. Waverley 06 May 2008Another video from my new digital camera. Here are some scenes from the engine room aboard the P.S. Waverley, the world's last going paddle steamer, departing Campbeltown for Greenock on 06 May 2008.

I liked that scene as well.
We have the film on DVD and in the extras, they filmed an engine in a smaller boat added scale ladders and then edited in the people!

the smaller ship was in fact a Liberty Ship. I forget which one of the two it was. It was either SS Jeremiah O'Brien or SS John Brown. For the long distance and Turbine shots they used the triple expansion engines at Kempton Park, which I was lucky enough to have a go on (not very exciting, spin the wheel and it very slowly cranks up to speed!)

Glad we achieved the West Coast of Scotland then, as it normally goes into the dry-dock prior to the season starting.
One of those paddle shaft bearings was changed a couple of years ago, and it was being run in a little slower and with lots of attention. Ever since it seems to have developed a squeak now & then at low speeds.
Sorry you are going to miss it, as the Balmoral is not steam sadly.
