Playing trainsI did lots of chores this morning, so thought I would spend a bit of time playing trains this afternoon.
Got a good run of Arthur and Ford Prefect running together (first two vids), and then ran Arthur on his own for quite a long time (third video).
I need to get a water top up valve for Ford. Will put an order in at some point when I have decided what else to upgrade. They are both running so well that I am a bit reluctant to fiddle though.

Thanks, that is why I ran them back-to-back instead of both facing forwards.
I was originally looking for an SL2, or SL1K for something a bit different to go with my SL1. But another SL1 came along at a good price, so I figured it might actually look good to have two the same running together.
Still on the lookout for another loco though, but it will have to be cheap!

Chris, outstanding runs...those locos are really performing quite well!!!
Question, is the base the track is laid on wood chips or stone??? Can't quite tell but it seems rock solid and looks great.
cheers,

They are wood chips. The track does rock a bit as the loco goes round, but not to bad. Also gives a soft landing if I derail.

I thought of that before. I put down a couple of bits of track but it just rocked too much. Might be ok if you have a really flat lawn and short grass.
Think the best bet is to cut out a width of grass where you want the track to go and fill with gravel and lay the track on the gravel.

You'd be best off doing it like Chris says, but making a trench, linning it with some geo-textile then filling it in with some fairly fine gravel.

Chris,
Wood chips do sound a better bed than stone...hadn't thought of the likely event of derailments...wood is kinder than stone on paint!

Yeah, that is what I meant. Just couldn't be bothered to type geo-textile.

I found that it would save time in the long run, especially when you get to the stage where your track is covered in weeds! That's why i reipped my first railway up.
