Poor Man's Meths Burner...After reading/viewing all the threads about alcohol burner construction last spring, I thought I would try my hand at building one (and ended up building four or five).
They are not pretty, but they are dirt cheap and functional.
A Piece of brass tubing, with holes drilled in it, soldered to a candle tin from the local craft store, a metal furniture plug soldered into the other end, some Tiki Torch wick, a piece of lead weight, and a screw, and there you are:
Total investment in each burner is about $5.00.
This should hold me until I can afford some of those beautiful British made burners.

Now that's nice. I've found similar tins, but they have either been ali or stainless... not exactly solder friendly.
I like that style of burner myself, since they are near impossible to have boil over.
You *might* find that not enough alcohol gets to the end of the pipe for your flame to reach the end. I had one like that, and the end got hot enough to continually melt the end cap off
Though if it does not reach the end, you don't really need an end cap anyway, so it doesn't matter.
Take some pics of it doing its thing

Thank you all for the kind comments.

I was concerned about that too, but the wick is thick enough that even the end stays lit.
I made one or two that have a channel milled in the brass tube, which provides more heat, but is harder for me to make with the equipment that I have. The holes were an attempt to make it easier to produce and also to cut down the heat a bit.
The burner in the photo was made for my D24 and has been used a lot. I had to clean it up to take the photographs.
