Possibly a way to distill alcohol without a stillWell heres an idea that I have tried but have not tested in burners. alcohol (meths) freezes way below waters freezing point, so the idea is that if you get some regular bought cheap alcohol (like your meths in the uk) and put it ina container then freeze it the water and impurities will freeze and the alcohol will not, then you pour the pure alcohol out and there you go. Sounds crazy but I have tried it and it works. But I'm not sure meths has any water in it I'll have to get some 70% alcohol and freeze it and see what happens. Hmmmmmmm cheap fuel

Denatured Alcohol can be anywhere from 91% to 100% I believe that rubbing alcohol is generally 71% more or less. I assume you could use a centrifuge too, as water and Alcohol should have a different specific gravity.
I believe that at home Improvement stores Denatured Alcohol runs around $35 to $40 a gallon. What is the price of rubbing alcohol per gallon?
I wish I could help more, but one thing that I have learned is that it pays to do ones homework. In this case Ranger will do the research.

That's how wine is sometimes fortified, Ranger, so you're on track.
I was reading up on the various -ols on wiki a while back, and there is apparently a limit beyond which you cannot distill alcohol from water. I forget the percentage.

I am thinking that 91% is probably in the ball park, higher concentrations are done by those with more complicated and expensive equipment than we have.
With all of the talk of Ethanol fuel for Vehicles, I wonder about that stuff. There are all kinds of Ethanol plants going up across the US, I think that in Indiana there are a half dozen that have started up in the past 5 or 6 years. Wonder about purity and availability from those places, AVOID E85 it is mostly gasoline.

Denatured alcohol is only about 12-16 dollars a gallon at ace hardware John, if you want a good deal
Although I don't know if Ace hardware exists outside of Texas

The last I bought was 100% I see the error, I think they have 91% at the Home Improvement places, my bad.

That's the way they used to make an apple spirit.
Take a barrel of cider and put it outside in winter. When the water in it freezes remove the ice that floats on top of the unfrozen alcohol (like an iceberg). If you keep doing this you end up with something very concentrated and warming in those cold winters.

When I was younger and even more foolish I used to stick Vodka in the deep freeze for a few hours to freeze the water out.

Not such a bad idea Odilon.
Grey Goose vodka stuck in the freezer for a while then poured and drunk while still thick.
Heaven.

I always have a bottle of vodka in the freezer but mine never freezes, just goes syrupy.
