Pre-war Mamod SE3 in steam

I decided to give the SE3 a run before I stripped it down and repainted it. Went quite well for it's first run. I should have tightened the trunion bolt a bit more as it was a bit leaky, but did go well once it    started to build up steam.

4 wicks were a bit of an over-kill, might try it with less another time.

A couple of photo's of the engine in steam

If the engine was original i'd be reluctant to fire the bugger. The firebox paint pretty much burnt off when it was steamed. Saved me a bit of paint stripping anyway.

Now we await James to fire his SE4
Nick

Runs Great!

I loved the action pictures.

Now James, FIRE THAT SE4!!

Nothing like using a good heat resistant paint is there MM?

Atleast the paint didn't melt and catch on fire.
IndianaRog

MM...that is a sweet engine, runs so smooth and quite powerful.  I don't think I have seen a video of one before, so thanks!!

It bubbled, not the worst case, but not quite good enough

It's a fantastic engine. I have 2 out of the 1000 ever made

Rarer than the SE4, although a few have come up on ebay over the past year. IMO 200 quid is an excellent price for such a quality piece!
Lewis

smooth runner mate

love the purr it makes
steamyjim

Runs brilliantly MM!
MooseMan

NICE NICE NICE!
James

VERY nice! Just need to put some seals on mine and it will run
Les Marsh

Very nice to see you are not worried about steaming it.
pauly

Wallace

Pure class MM.

It's great to see these old engines run.

Might we see this one at next years STIA????

I love it! The rpm's really picked up in the second vid...just as well the
trunion was loose...it would've flown off the counter!
bessytractor

excellent stuff.  They are such dignified runners these old SEs!
