Project 2 My D455 pimped

Hi Guys,

thanks to a lot of advise from people all over the forum and a special thanks to roly for giving me the idea to paint my firebox, i have now started to do up my Wilesco D455.

the colouring will be gloss black but keeping the original green engine mount as this is in super condition and seems a shame to strip it, but we shall see.

Stage 1 the clean:
When i first got this engine it was caked in dust which had settled onto the chrome and welded itself into it. but using a cleaning kit i got from halfords these were the results.

this was the set up i used to clean (excuse the mess this is my Fathers bench   )

and the results ignore the whistle

and the base plate and firebox cleaned ready for first coat

Swift Fox

Boiler has come up very nicey.
Daveyp2

The chuff pot.

As part of the project i needed a oil trap come condense pot or whatever else it is called.

i got told they were not hard to make and funny enough no they are not and this is the results of mine i still need to lacquer the paint to give it protection and a nice shine but other than that it is ready.

for those that are interested i bought the tins new off ebay and these have been excellent in fact because i have a few left over i am going to make some more up for a few other engines.

Yes, from that angle it looks good! Did not notice that. But where it has rusted.(mainly the otherside) it is back to bare steel and would rust it if left, which is a dam shame but I could not find a replacement firebox
sarfraz

It's definately cleaning up quite nicely.

Well Progress has been made (thankyou bank Holiday   )

i now have the chuff pot finished and plumbed in
the gas tank is ready
and the firebox and engine is back together (the boiler is not secured yet as the base is not quite done yet.

Now i call upon you lot for some advise.

do i or do i not repaint the main engine to match the base and fire box black colour, or do i keep it original.

Les

That's looking good, the engine does stand out so a repaint might be in order.
Celsius 100

I would not paint it because it adds a touch of contrast. However, it is a matter of your own personal taste.
MrMamod

Spray the engine frame RED as it will look good with the black firebox just like their D21     ...
Daveyp2
