what exact year did they stop putting the model on the smokebox front?
like te1a,sw,etc etc
and where to get a decent pop riveter that doesnt leave the snapped pins in the middle of the rivvet?

i dont know about the year of change in the smoke box but about pop riveters. ...... it could be the quality of the rivets or you have worn jaws in your gun. or you dont have the right jaws for the size of the rivet stem... post a pic of your gun and we can soon tell you.

A pop riveter will normally leave the head end of the pin inside the rivet. That's how it works. If the pin comes right out, it usually means it's the wrong size rivet and will not grip the parts correctly.

If it leaves the whole pin in place then that's different. If the pin shank is slipping in the jaws of the tool then the tool may be worn out. If it's not slipping then keep going till it snaps off. Large diameter pins do require some effort.

I think it was the early to mid 70's when they stopped listing the model on the smokebox although i could be wrong.

At a guess the lettering was omitted some time in the mid to late 80's. The lettering was still being used whilst the company was still under the ownership of the Malins family, right up to 1980.

thanks for the answers,and for the rivet gun,my old one is broken,is why im asking for someones personal advice,but all the years ive used one,ive NEVER seen one omit the pin in the middle,on a side note,good to see lots a new members here,world of steam is ming forefront and as rightly so in this global situation,it should be looked at more imho
