Received and steamed my Jensen 75 today

My Jensen 75 turned up in the post today and I must say I'm impressed at just how big and solid it is.
The boiler is even huge when compared to an SE3.

I wasn't planning on steaming it tonight but the wife has gone out to dinner with her friends and the kids are asleep so I figured I would give it a go.

The engine is complete besides the solid fuel burner but as I plan on using meths that doesn't worry me.

I used my Luton Bowman PW201 burner to run it which is terribly undersized for the Jensen but still managed to run it pretty well.

On coming up to the boil I had a little water leak out around the window but this stopped pretty quickly, I guess once the gasket got wet again it swelled up and sealed it.

It took a little to get it going at first as it spewed out all the old solidified oil out the exhaust but once it had done that and I gave all the moving parts some fresh oil it hummed away beautifully.

For those that remember the ebay photos I'm now pretty sure the white stuff on the inside is not calcification but silicon someone has put on at some point to seal it.
It looks a bit ugly with this white stuff on the window but the engine runs perfectly so I don't think I will be doing anything to this engine, just use it as is.

Sorry no photos tonight as I couldn't be bothered taking any tonight (Was a busy day at work) but will take some tomorrow.

For anyone unsure about getting a Jensen 75 I say go for it as they are great engines.

Another happy Jensen owner

The 75 is indeed the essential Jensen, if you just want one. Cheap and plentiful to find used, and with all of the basic features that make the brand unique

Sounds like good fun!

Yes decided the Jensen will be the engine that will power all my accessories.

Just need my drive bands to turn up and then figure out how I'm going to set it all out.

Welcome to the Jensen Steam Family... we've been waiting on you to join the fun. Nice to know it exceeded your expectations.

Thanks Steve.

I knew it was going to be a good engine but I just hadn't expected the boiler on it to be so large in comparison to my other engines.

Its my first double acting stationary and I've been after one of those for some time now.
The only downside is I've reached critical mass in my collection now and I'm going to have to sell some to make room for any new engines.

I like the Mamods and the Wilescos, but the Jensen is the best built of them all. I think the Wilescos are a little more "Showy", and the Mamods have their own charm ( which I like ) but he Jensens are built to perform.
I hope you can post some pictures soon.

Good one Tony, i knew you wouldn't be dissappointed

I'm glad your happy with it Tony, they're a great little goer. I felt the same about he boiler on the 75# when compared to the SE3. Ii just wish I could find a burner to run it for longer as the SE3 burner only consumes about 1/3 of the boiler contents.

That's what I said but no one seems to want to leave home, , and I'm not terriblly good at forced evictions.

Just went to take some photos of my Jensen, took one photo and got the dreaded long beep followed by the camera shutting down and telling me to change the batteries.
So will be posting some photos after the batteries are charged.

My camera has never been the same since my wife left it outside for 24 hours in the rain.
