Renown Restoration

I got this Renown some time ago for parts and pinched the safety valve and bush off it to fix another engine.

As you can see its in pretty rough shape.

I've since made two new bushes for it.

I also managed to get a cylinder and piston a while back that was missing the trunnion bolt so just fitted the trunnion bolt that was still onl this engine even though half the cylinder was missing.
So now all I need to do is make a new safety valve and for now will probably just make a bolt to plug the whistle hole and do some soldering and this wreck will be running again.

Turn up a whistle instead
Nick

They're too shiny for the engine.

Haven't figured out how to make one yet.

But the plan is to make one eventually and if it turns out ok make some more for sale.

Looks like a nice engine, and well worth fixing!
Les Marsh

That will look nice when it's finished.

That's great and look forward to seeing it run

Good one, Tony. I am sure John Pugh would be chuffed to know his creations are still loved so many years later.

Managed to get a 1/8" BSW tap today but couldn't get a die so I made a couple of the little nuts that hold the spring on the safety valve.
I will try on Saturday to get myself a die so I can make the threaded part but tomorrow I may  have a go at making the part of the safety valve that screws into the boiler and I've found a supplier of bronze wire so after Easter I will be ordering that.

I'm still on a steep learning curve with my lathe but every time I use it I learn something so its all good.
