Renown rollerIt's just arived on Friday
I believe this is a later model one. It is interesting to see the differences
How many differences can you spot ?
It has quite a few missing parts and I think the burner will leak where the wick holders have flexed the tank but no problems that can't be fixed

Yes I agree a later one.
I know all the differences but will let other people guess.
Can you resolder the large pulley or is it beyond help?

Now you have another one, what about Kritikas

Water level plug, two safety valves, solid large flywheel(no decorative holes).

No towing hook.

Did you bid on that one on Morphyliveauctions yesterday Steve
Looked complete and went for $300 US
I'd be a lot happier knowing that you or Tony got it. This close to christmas I'm about spent
The wife has already told me that she doesn't want a steam engine for Christmas
She didn't look any more impressed when I suggested a boat
She knows me too well
I haven't done anything to the other roller yet. Hopefuly I will get to it in the new year

I don't think there will be any real problems with the pulley Tony, just a quick sand to remove the surface rust and a fairly simple resoldering.
It looks like this engine might have the answer to what the original friction drive (terminology?) was made of....Vulcanised rubber and cotton?

Here is quick list of all the variations on Renown rollers that I'm aware of, not just the ones shown here.
Front side brass plates fitted outside the larger plate not inside.
Cast brass large pulley or pressed metal red one. The pressed ones came later.
Filling bolt or no filling bolt, one with filling bolts are later
With or without tow hook.
Wheels can be red or green.
Fuel tank can be with or without overflow plug and red or green.
Red or green roof, and different shades of green.
A new one I've just noticed this one has used the domed nut to hold the fuel tank rather than the knurled nut that is used on the trunnion bolt.

Yes I noticed that too.
I'm sure my dad used to have sheets of that stuff.
Wouldn't of been too hard to make a punch that could be used in a press to punch out round disks of the stuff.

Perhaps some photo's of my other engine will help
you have both missed one glaring difference and a couple of smaller ones
Kevin's a Renown expert now
He nearly drove my older roller off the top shelf of our bookcase
Like a true professional operator he clung to his machine and didn't abandon it to it's fate

Just noticed no provision for a steering rod that I can see but can't spot the other ones unless the boiler is copper as its hard to tell in the photo.

Yes the later model has never had a steering rod
Yes the boiler and engine mount might be copper, it's a bit hard to tell as it might just be the discolouration of the lacquer on them. In any case I wasn't counting this as the materials used may have changed a few times dependant on what was available.
The burner tanks are different
The earlier burner tank is molded around the pipe to the wick holders, giving it extra strength against the flexing the later model has suffered. I don't know why they would have removed this
The later model also has an extra support holding the whistle stem to the steam pipe

Missed the bit on the moulding around the tank and that S around the whistle seems to be on or off with no reason.
So I had just put it down to 'it get lost on some models'

One similarity I can see is you have the same kitchen worktop as we have- see my Avitar
Nice engine there, am I the only one to see a bit of heath Robinson in them though
