renown windmill repo.

as liz and i were outbid after a $550 attempt at a recent ebay sale of a renown windmill.... LIZ said MAKE ME ONE!!!!  ok i said.   liz wouldnt allow me to bid higher!!! as years earlier on this very forum a member "brandt" (byrce) drew up plans and posted them on this forum for all members(thankyou bryce!)

here is his plans

after reading his posts i soon realised that making the windmill head was going to be the hardest task.....it took bryce 5 attempts . it took me the same

i now have a windmill head and rear vane.

the next part to tackle will be the base.... a easy project but heaps of work and i wasnt going to do the work unless i could make the windmill head. with that done ...im proceeding.

bryce drew the plans so now i have to make a WOODEN one  ...then cast it in aluminium

i plan to power the windmill with my 101 as there is only two rivets secureing it to its base...by replacing the rivets with small metal threads i will be able to attach the 101 to the windmill or reattach its base and display as a 101. it will probaly take at least a week before i will have a base.

I can see a few other members may be interested in buying a base off you once it is finished.
I look forward to watching the project grow.
Let me know if you need measurements for the base of the windmill.

will do tony. the only part of the plans that bryce didnt draw was the bottom tower. this is the only part i dont have measurements for as the "pump" is a standard renown engine......i have a spare crank, piston ,cylinder and a cast 3 inch pulley....so as soon as a base is done ..   it shouldnt take all that long.

Not wishing to hijack your thread but I thought you might like this I fabricated the base from a flat piece of alloy so it is not exact but reasonably close

The head looks wonderful....the casting part should be a fun exercise for you...it will keep you warm too

what a excellent job boxman.     i knew you repo ed a 101 but the windmill came as a wonderful surprise!     just what i needed. to spur me on. had i have known that you successfully repo-ed one i dont think i would have bothered bidding so high in the recent auction.  only three things give yours away as a repo at first glance....naturally there are others things but one would need to be a expert in renowns to pick these details. the first thing and now one looks for others things.. is the engine... if you replaced the engine with an orginal.????? 90% would say its original...the next is that the base is too smooth........ had you sandblasted it to rough it up?? and the next thing is the 3 inch pulley....had it been a tin frabicated one or a brass sandblasted (or cast) ...if it had these three things i would have at first glance declared it ORIGINAL!!!!   and just not bothered taking a closer   i hope to address these 3 things in my repo.  once again a big thankyou boxman for posting...and a hearty WELL DONE!!!!

Lookin forward to see the engine-a-crankin , the wind-a-blowin , and the pump-a-pumpin !

That looks a pretty good reproduction to me mate - I still ahave a part complete one, as well as an original to, to complete - well done with your repro.

Looking good Glenn, I already have the base on my incomplete one, so it's the tower and windmill sails etc, that I still have to make repro's of.

Cheers
