Replacement Latimer L4 burnerI decided I needed to make a replacement burner for little Latimer L4.
Although complete, the rim of original was badly rusted away, as can be seen, allowing flames to dangerously blow back down under lid. I happened to already have the tube seen in background, that normally contains a bottle of essential oil & of almost identical diameter.
Cut it down to right height, then carefully cut & filed a circular hole in lid, leaving an attached strip that once neatly filed & bent back, creates the small handle, as in original. I then massacred a poor tea strainer that had done me no harm to provide mesh & for lack of something better, filled with cotton wool. Although lid obviously no longer screws on, the thread provides a good grip to hold lid to base.
Lid & handle were originally painted red but my paint is not HT, so seemed pointless but will do so when I can lay my hands on some HT red.
Here is the result & seems to work fine, although haven't yet had time to actually try it with the Latimer.

Nice job and if you take the lid off and flip it over you can still use it to strain the tea too.

Nice job, I love how many variations there are on the basic vap burner, very simple but efficient.

That looks dandy.
When I needed some mesh I bought some photo-etched steel stuff from a hobby shop. I probably would have been better off making one of the tea strainers go whoosh instead XD

It's funny, now as I go shopping I'm looking at product tins thinking "Would that make a good burner?"

Thanks lads! Of course anyone can copy, that's why I put it up Especially as those little burners are very fragile & rarely survive. Tried it with the Latimer today & works like a dream...........very pleased with myself
Like mc_mc I now scour the shelves for anything suitable & have a wee stockpile & think I'll have fun this winter playing with burners. I'm waiting for Ranger & Mr Occlusion to come up with the definitive design for the vaporizing/atomizing burner & will then try one of those too

I've seen various home made burners being used for L4's (including mine!) but that's certainly the best copy of the original that I've seen!

Hmm. I thought I replied to this. Oh well, I'll try again!
(Maybe my ladyfriend was using the microwave while the air conditioner
was running and it blew the circuit taking my computer down with it!)
You did a marvelous job there...I can see why you're pleased with it!
I know just what you mean about shopping and spying something that might
make a great burner! I also look for squarish tins to make fireboxes!
