Ride behind Tornado on the NYMR

Iv really been looking forward to this, I havent riden behind Tornado before and I was really looking forward to seeing her in her new colours.

Grosmont

My first glimpse as she pulls in.

Tornado alwasy draws a crowd

We soon set off for Goathland, Levisham and Pickering.
Normally Id spend most of the journey leaning out fo the window admiring the view and taking shot of the loco when we went around curves but Tornado was throwing out so much clag that it wasnt worth losing my eyesight for (well for the most part)

Drawing a crown at Goathland

Levisham

Pulling into Pickering

Look at that roof!

Tornado looks so smart

Admiring the new roof

The atmos it creates by trapping the smoke and letting the light through the skylights is fantastic.

Me in my new Tornado fleece sitting with my mother and sister.

:SECOND PART: The return journey coming soon.
Sorry for some fo the poor quality shots, I had a lot of trouble getting the right exposure, the light levels kept changing.
MrMamod

Pauly seems like you had a blast and only some of the photo's came through for me   BUT now they do = Cracking Grommit
Albert.rivero

The loco used in the HP films is a Hall Class named Olton Hall, it neither any of the other Halls are present on the NYMR so I dont know what youv spotted.
Goathland has been used as a HP location though.

After a quick bit of lunch at the Russels Cafe we returned to the station to catch a train back to Grosmont.

A Black 5 coming in.

The new roof sets off the locos so well when there under it.

We bagged a guard oaches with some really comfey seats which wherent fastened to the floor so I could give myself plenty of leg room instead of jamming my massive legs into the crammed seats of the LNER Teaks which made up most of the train.

During the return journey an wholeful lot of ash and grit came through our open window and collected on the table.

Bask at Grosmont while snapping a quick shot of 80072 back down onto the train I was collared by 61264 (the forum emember not the loco   ) who said hed reconised me from a picture on the forum and gave me a tip that Sir Nigal was being split from its tender for maintenance and there was a lot happening at the sheds.

Indeed a lot was happening

Cock O the North looking a little worse for wear, Im sure 61264 can tell me whats happening with it.

Joem, the hero engine.

Then I heard 80072 leavin gthe station so I ran down the bank upto the coal loader for a quick shot as she came through

Iv also found her class to be very quirky, large with large wheels but lackign a tender, it makes her look a little strange (but only a little    )

Inside the shed

and soem more of the shed interiour I snapped by leaning through an (rarley) open window.

and thats my lot, I had an excellent day.
I actually took over 140 pictures today
and my computer jumbled them all up so these posts took bloody ages
MrMamod

BLOODY HELL!!! I never knew the roof was being re-done at Pickering?!?!     That looks brilliant! and also, how many Black 5's do the NYMR have at the moment, cause it looks like 4 from the pics!

4 at the moment, but 45212 will be leaving at some point to return to Llangollen, but 44871 with probably return.

92214 is having its tires replaced, but it is hoped to have it back asap. A crack was found in the boiler backhead of 60007 so that will be out of action for up to 3 months whilst that is repaired.
Les

Great pictures there Pauly, did you get a chance to go on the footplate of 'Tornado'?

They were when it was on the Watercress Line as I managed to go on it, I suppose it depends on how busy they are though.
johnreid

I learned that it never hurts to politely ask.

I even got some great rides that way, but not on Tornado of course.
pauly

I just thought Id post some of the goo dpics which I didnt use in the original post, Iv got about 50 other which arent good enough or important enough for me to consider using.

That's the first time I've seen the new roof - smart I wonder how long that nice shiney paint will last?

Is that a class 8 steam conversion with the tender

This vid of Tornado pulling the dining sets just been posted on Youtube, it looks great.
That coach set is the same that me, Allan and Johnreid rode in during his vist, those last 3 shabby compartment coaches, not the nice pullmans
