RocDoc updateHi,
I can't remember if I ever properly introduced myself ... sorry if I didn't.
I'm RocDoc ... well, Pete to be precise. I live in Lincolnshire with my wife and 10 year old daughter and am a geologist by profession (hence the name RocDoc ... couldn't think of anything more original).
Came into steam engines by accident. Sort of inherited a Bowman Seahawk from my father in-law last year and am slowing preserving the boat (see photos in the Bowman Seahawk Restoration part of Restorations ... that reminds me, I need to update that thread). Since then I have bought a Burnac Vulcan ... my collections stands at two engines. It's a start.
I must say that I'm not exactly a steam buff ... I have a passing interest in all things mechanical and stuff (planes, cars ... engines). I like building things (Dolls Houses for my daughter, large R/C glider) and making things work again. I'm also into Triathlon races having completed my first ever half Iron Man event earlier in September. That side of things takes up a lot of time ... so too does work as I travel quite a bit for my job.
There is one person I really must mention. He is, of course, Odilon who is a tremendous friend in that he has taken me under his wing, provided very generous help and advice ... and has given the Bowman and Vulcan engines an expert 'once-over' fixing any bits that needed fixing so that a part-time steam buff like me doesn't blow himself up. Thank you Odilon.
Also, thanks to all of you too for your friendly comments, hints and tips.

It's great to have you here Pete.
Your right. Odilon has been a source of inspiration to a lot of members here, including me.
I hope you continue to enjoy the hobby and keep posting your trials, tribulations and new acquisitions.
Keep up the good work.
Sandman.

Pete, I do think you introduced yourself awhile back, but no harm, reminds us of the man behind the name RocDoc!!
I think you will find a lot of folks on here dabble in things mechanical, must be hard coded in the genes! I too like RC planes and such, though they have taken a backseat to the steam hobby these past few years. I plan to merge the two hobbies with an RC version of a Wilesco roller.
Again, welcome Pete, and if you've made good friends with Odilon, you are OK in my book!

Rog somewhere buried on this forum is a link I posted about a working RC steam powered plane, that would combine your two hobbies nicely. The plane does use flash steam to power it as that gets rid of the boiler and drastically lowers the engine weight but it is still very cool.
I'll see if I can find it again.
Rocdoc please do update us with your Seahawk restoration.
I also have a selection of RC planes although I haven't flown any in years but I do have a small RC electric helicopter I am trying to learn to fly at the moment.

I do not know if any of you are familiar with John Hartford, but he did a song called Steam Powered Aereoplane, one of my favorite Hartford songs.

Awwww....
Another way to put this is: Pete's the guy who trusted me enough to let me fiddle with his incredibly rare Seahawk - a privilege indeed.
