I couldn't think of a special theme for this year so I'll just feature my acquisitions since the last STWWW. Compiling this list I was shocked at how long it is! There's an Ade, Bittleston, Burnac, Cyldon, Empire, three Mamods, MF, five (yes 5) Peakes, Philcraft, Wilesco and some miscellaneous home brews and unknowns! I refuse to add up the total in £s – I'd probably give myself a heart attack! I'll present them in reverse chronological order, with a couple of exceptions where I think it will be more interesting to group two or more together. There's a mixture of old and new photos and videos but I've made sure that there's at least one new photo of each; and some of the old photos are ones that have not been seen on here before. Most of the videos are new.
First of all, however, tradition must be observed. As in previous years, here's a video guided tour of my whole collection:
Thanks for that guided tour Roly, you do have some wonderful engines.
Wow 5 Peake engines, you are catching me up!

Very nice Roly some really good engines but my favourite has to be the Charabanc

What a wonderfully diverse collection. Love the tick tock of the clock in the background, made for a nice relaxing ambience to the video.

Peake Engines Micro & Major
I've bought several of Ben Peakes engines in the last 12 months. The 1, 2 and 3 will appear in their own thread. My latest Ebay purchases are the Micro and Major. I bought these to go with the Minor which was my first Ben Peake engine and have had for a while.
Fantastic photos and videos of those two Peake engines Roly, look forward to more.

Very nice, I enjoyed the guided tour a lot

A wonderful collection displayed in a superb way.

Ade Stationary
I finally managed to buy an Ade at an affordable price. It wasn't quite working but, after refitting the movable port face correctly, it now runs, although not as well as I'm sure it could. It seems to run a bit better every time so maybe it just needs running in.
Great collection,
nice to see that ADE run so smoothly, they can be quite difficult to run.
Sandman
What a great table Roly.
Loved the tour.
Les
This is going to be yet another great table.

Empire B31
I've bought two B31s this year. I bought one a while ago with the intention of restoring it. It was well battered but, at the time, I considered most of it restorable. I made a start stripping it down but had to put it aside because I couldn't find a replacement for the missing heater element. It is currently a box of bits and will probably remain in that state because I've just acquired a fully restored one from Steaminon. This one is in excellent condition, both mechanically and cosmetically. It runs nicely as can be seen in the video below.
I bet the makers of that ham tin never expected it to end up like that.
Les
That ended more like a bumper car than a boat but it is a load of fun to see it going.
angus
Very wide ranging and interesting collection
Steam Models
Roly that's a very interesting reversing gear on that "Ade"
But as you said it seams to trying it's hardest to run.

Cyldon 13/3
The Cyldon 13/3 is similar to the 13/1 but with an aluminium instead wooden base. Neither is very common so when I saw this 13/3, I snapped it up. It's in fair condition but without it's burner. I now want a 13/1 to go with it! (I also want a burner.)
This little engine was bought from Chronos, who advertised it as “The Bittleston Engine”. They don't say who it was made by. It's a well engineered all machined metal oscillating cylinder engine.
I had owned an ME1 and ME3 for ages and had long been on the lookout for an ME2. When I finally managed to acquire an ME2, I was devastated to find the boiler was suffering from de-zincification. I bought the ME1 when I was looking for a scrapper to cannibalise for a boiler for the ME2. When I got it, it was more original and in better condition than the one I already had, so I kept this one and cannibalised the other.
Love them both Roly, especially when the ME1 wanted to go and play in the water.
It's one of the most hyperactive engines I've got

Fantastic video on the ME1 & 2!!!!!

Roly, thanks very much for inviting us to your home... I am looking forward to having a cup of tea now and taking some time for a good chat... Thanka again!

Wilesco D365 “Old Smoky”
Old Smoky is currently awaiting restoration. Paintwork is not too bad but, mechanically, it's in poor condition (which is why I managed to buy it at an affordable price). It's not yet in running order so, sorry, no video.
Some more great engines Roly, i'm pleased you have the full set of Mamod marine engines now.
Well, not quite. There's the flat base ME1 but I'm not likely to find one of those in a hurry
scalex
wow Roly you have some very nice engines there i do like the ADE

Unknown /scratch-built vertical stationary
The seller of this engine on Ebay thought it might be an Ade (and I can see why) but it's not. I'm pretty sure it's scratch built, albeit using some commercial parts. As can be seen in the video, it's a very nice runner (after I fixed the minor leak in the boiler due to a badly designed fixing).
It will be interesting to find out where the leak is coming from.
Ah, sorry, that was an old video. The leak was at the soldered joint on the end cap. It was easy enough to resolder but the fixing screw kept forcing the joint open again. In the end I just left the screw off. The steam pipe holds the boiler in position as long as I don't try to lift the whole thing by the boiler.

Ah, right mate.
Glad it's fixed now.

Some nice pieces Roly.

Roly you have a great collection and the photos and videos are very good.

REW Charabanc
This one made a brief appearance this time last year in an unfinished state. Here are some new photos and an old video.
The charabanc is a credit to you Roly and it will keep you fit while you keep chasing it along.
peol
That Characbanc is a real racer... don't think I've seen any steam toy going at that pace

Philcraft beam engine under glass
This is one of the variations of the Philcraft beam engine. It came without the boiler and mounted under a display dome. As can be seen in the video, the feed and exhaust pipes are fed through the base so that a connection can be made underneath and the engine run under the dome. This is probably not very advisable using steam but the video shows it done with compressed air.
This one needs no introduction. Was it really only last STIA when I bought it? No video for this one. This is one of few of my engines that I intend to keep unfired. Don't ask me why – I don't really know
I might try it on air one day. I'm not sure if my little compressor has enough oomph. It's worth a try I s'pose.
OK, one day = today! Having had the subject brought up I just had to give it a try:
Les
It works very well indeed.
Sandman
Well worth the effort, Roly.
Great to see it running.
Thanks mate.

Peake Engines No's 1, 2 & 3
I was a bit surprised when I realised that all three of Ben Peake's numbered engines came out in the last year, but they have. I bought No.1 in November 2010, No.2 in January '11 and No.3 in August.
Nice to see the standalone Philcraft beam, that was a really great find Roly.
Great to see all of Ben's 'Peake' series together and he certainly has been busy these past one and a bit years. Very well photographed too.

Burnac Vulcan
I completely restored this engine. I first painted the base with “green” VHT paint but the colour turned out to be completely different from that on the cap on the can (see the last photo below). I later repainted it to a better shade in ordinary paint.
Those Peake engines are amazing. I really love the chunky flywheels, everything looks very crisply machined
The Denying Dutchman
I never thought the Mamod Me1 would be so powerful! Loved the video.

I'll leave my last item till tomorrow morning - and it's something special (it's special to me anyway).

Roly ... what can I say ... simply wonderful as always!

Mamod SE4
And now last – but very definitely not least – this was my prize at last year's STWWW, of which I'm exceedingly proud. There's not much I can say about this that hasn't already been said many many times before, so straight on to the pics:
In the video below, the engine slows down quite early on in the run to a nice steady tick-over. This was because the burner was reduced to only 1 or 2 wicks because it got drenched with water!
That charablanc is brilliant Roly, I also love the motion of the beam engine, I can watch mine for ages. But you have certainly left the best until last, the SE4's great.
Cheers
Chris

OK, that's my last table item, so I'll now try to catch up on others' tables. See you there.
Sandman
Great to see the SE4 run Roly.
A fitting end to a cracking table.
Les
The SE4 is wonderful, a great prize for a great table.
