Rosa pressure guageRight I had an idea to include a pressure guage on Rosa. The mamod ones are 3/4 of an inch diameter so its perfecto for the cab. Here is my original idea for attaching it to the loco. With the safety valve above that.
I think it should work...In theory
Picture courtesy of Jimberino cheers mate!

HOW DOES the whole lot look, schematically when its all plumbed in ie lubricators, pipes pistons and gauges . . . .

ITs a totally different system Mike
The pressure guage will take the steam from the whistle thread and into the cab. The safety valve will then screw on top of that "chamber" like the picture. The steam pipe, lubricator pipe will remail untouched

Aye, I know that - how does it all look? Draw me a diagram!

Aye Jimbo thats how it'll work and the loco pipework is as follows:

Thats better - but surely the d/lubricator has one pipe in and one pipe out? thence onto the steam chest/speed control?

the pipe goes right through to the top of the lubricator sorry

Looks not to hard MM as long as you can get someone to make you the threaded adapter.

Couldn't you ask I.P Engineering to supply a 'T' piece as they make one for the regulator kit?

Chris

PPS also list steam fittings under the accessories menu.
Says they are for 1/8" pipe. A tee is £5.40.

Titan

Sorry I took a little while to get the photo sorted, but this is the arrangement on Titan:
Just a pipe soldered straight in to a thin ring and put under in this case the filler valve. Washer above and below. Only modification required is to file a verticle groove through the threads of the filler valve so steam can pass up between boiler bush and valve threads.
Although in this particular case it is showing the steam supply for the dynamo, (because it was easier to photograph!) the principle is the same for the whistle/pressure gauge. It also has the advantage that the height of the whistle is only increased slightly, so the lever on top will still fit through the slot in the cab.
You might find on the whistle that it is necessary to cut off the ring part of the upright on the whistle and solder that directly to the banjo fitting instead to lower the whistle a bit more - it should only sit a couple of mm higher then.
This also has the advantage that it does not matter how far you need to screw the valve in to get it to seal - with your arrangement if the washer needs replacing you may find that when tightened again the pipe does not line up anymore due to the new washer being slightly thicker than the old one and needing 1/8 turn less to tighten, which might tempt you to overtighten to get the pipe to line up again.
|
Titan
|
Actually after typing all that the photo actually shows the arrangement on the whistle for the pressure gauge reasonably well too - you can just make out the pipe going through in to the cab.
|
Mamodman123
|
Wow thats so simple Titan! I think ive got some brass tubing the correct size aswell!
I never thought about the washer either! This Way i can remove it easily too! I don't have a whistle on Rosa just a safety valve and water top up.
So all you do is file about half way up to let steam into the "ring"? Any chance of a picture of this Titan?
|
Titan
|
Dunno, my camera is not all that great at taking close ups.
You actually need to file virtually all the way up, you have to provide a path past the bottom washer, then the steam can find its way around the remaining threads above and because of that it does not matter if the filed groove does not line up with the pipe!
