Royal Mail Strikes?I read in another thread about mail strikes in the UK.
Anyone have any info on it, how it's affecting things? Just curious as I have ordered some stuff, and normally would expect it in the next few days, but not sure now?

They have been striking at various depots on and off for the last few weeks, post has slowed down but it does get though eventually.
It took a parcel four days longer to go from Bournemouth to London than the parcel from Bournemouth to the USA and they were posted together at the same Post Office, I think it is affecting internal mail more than International mail but that could all change.

We really haven't seen the worst of it yet. The drivers go out nationwide on Thursday and the sorters and delivery people go out on Friday to maximise the effect.
That will cause major delays. I don't see how they can avoid that, even with extra part time staff.

Seems arrogant to strike as the Royal Mail seems to be doing when there are so many layoffs and people WITHOUT jobs in a tough economy.
If I were in charge I would fire every last one who walked off the job and replace them with people willing to work for a living. These people feel too entitled to a paycheck.

I was told by a non steam UK friend that they have hired Scab labor to make up for some of it, The whole problem is that the Christmas mailing season is coming upon us and so many are shopping online.
They are not striking on the US, but are laying off, I am not all that enthused with some of the cost cutting measures that they are coming up with here, International Mailing from the US is going to be a bit more inconvenient .

I've had decals either held up or destroyed
I'll be honest and say if any postman wants to strike I'll take his job. Get up arpund 6 and home by about 1 or 2.
Would suit me fine

I agree with you, however, the bill will then be landed on the taxpayer who will have to fund their jobseekers benefits etc

US works it a bit different apparently...if you get fired (as opposed to a layoff), there are NO unemployment benefits...you go hungry!
If the folks walking off those UK postal jobs knew they did NOT have a safety net to catch them, they might think twice about striking in the first place.

Yes in this country if you quit your job you don't get "Jobseekers"
