Royal Mail...32 days to the US for an envelope

Normally when I have ordered items from UK vendors, I get them in 5-7 days, sometimes 10 but rarely longer.

In Sept. I ordered a small item from Forest Classics and it was posted within 24 hours of payment...that was Sept. 30th.  I just got it today, 32 days later.

For the life of me I can't reconcile a public service like Royal Mail being allowed to go on strike, especially during a recession when it could do real damage to businesses struggling to survive.

I remember many years ago when President Reagan gave striking Air Traffic Controllers an ultimatum, return to work or you are fired.  Hundreds were fired for not obeying the president's demand...many never did get their jobs back ever.  If someone in a position of authority would do the same in the UK, I would venture to guess the strike would end quickly or they would be fired and replaced with those willing to work.

rant over....

I got an envelope from Moose and it only took 6 days. I do believe it is a roll of the dice though, The ATC guys got a rough deal, but I agree striking should not be the solution.

I am waiting for a letter from sweeden for my school work! It has probably been a month now!

The post came today.

I was talking to the post lady and she said that if she does not strike It would turn nasty with threats and stuff!

It fey annoying I fell sorry for businesses who depend on it!

We dont get it much better here rog!

Somthing like 42 million pieces of mail to deliver this morning after the strikes1

Governments are inefficient, I was mailed a notice that I need to fill out a form for the State, this form they said in the letter is only available online and no longer available at the office. I  go to the URL and it says that the form is not available online and that I need to go to the office and get one there. Catch 22

I posted a number of letters on Friday, right in the middle of the strike action and most have been received today. The strike action has caused some delay but I believe that workers have to fight for their rights, on the news this morning they mentioned that bin men could be facing a paycut of £5000 so that extra funds could provide a pay rise for higher skilled workers such as carers.

Then you have the other end of the spectrum with the directors of the BBC etc getting paid a salary of £850,000 per year. People need to be paid decently for a decent days work, these people are not highly paid, striking is not something that they would take lightly. I also have very good experience with Royal Mail as a company and find their delivery staff and their service to be top notch.

A couple of times our postie has delivered something when nobody was in and later gone back on his round and out of his way to try to deliver it again. On a couple of occasions this was a steam Loco on a Saturday morning too, I was more than pleased that he'd taken the effort. He'll be getting a little gift to say thanks this Christmas!

Wonder if you bought some from Flywheel, or does he still partner with MM

Didn't one of our former members produce decals too?

johnreid

That's an awfully long time Rog. I had 2 packages from the UK about a fortnight ago, one of them from Forest, and both came within normal time.

I reckon from the UK at the moment it's a complete lottery. I received 2 parcels today from UK, one posted 24/10 and one on the 26/10. 8 days is pretty good service, however on the other hand, I'm still waiting for something posted in mid September???---

Who is to say your packet was definitely held up by the Royal Mail, to be honest it could have been held up anywhere along its journey to you.

For sure Les, I have no idea where it is, and for the value, I'll wait and see if it turns up. The postage was more than the value of the goods, unfortunately you don't get many Hofner spares dealers in Australia---

This could go for Roger's parcel as well, I once had to wait 8 weeks for a parcel from Canada to the UK.
