RPM results

Sorry, but added another thread as the other was already at 8 pages.

So far my results are:

MEC1. Average 2770, peak 2800.

Afterwards I realised that I was running it in what I call reverse, and it's more run in forward, so more testing tomorrow
I didn't allow presssure to build for s/v to pop, just got it running then let it run.

Then I ran my fave engine. No it's not old, but it was my first, and has always ran well, never giving me trouble. Again, same treatment as above, just got it running, and let it run.
This was in forward direction, and while I'll test tomorrow, I don't think I can get any faster unless I let steam build to pop the valve.

SE2a: Average 2950. Peak 3025

I tried SE3, but couldn't get a result, flywheel needs cleaning, or I will use the strips combined with electrical tape. Then I was rudely interuppted with the missus wanting me to cook a BBQ.

More testing tomorrow.

Excellent stuff Wallace!

That SE2a doesn't half fly can't believe it

Great results mate, must get the link off you so I can order one & compare results. Why does the state of the flywheel make any difference?

Cheers

Cheers guys.

Chris it works on the beam refecting. You get reflective tape with it, so for harmonic balancers and what not on normal engines you use that.
It says in instructions if the thing you are measuring is shiny, to paint it black or whatever

For my SE2a and MEC1, the flywheels were shiny, so all I did was put black electrical tape right around, leaving about a 1cm gap. The gap being shiny.

The SE3 flywheel is a dark grey, not shiny at all, so I couldn't get a reflection. So I have to use the tape or polish flywheel. Tape is easier

On an even better note, your decal held up. This decal was put on, with no setting solution/lacquer

Oh, here's a link to one

I might get one myself too.
Just a warning though, his checkout system didn't work at all from my PC or the one at work. Have to wait for him to eventually reply

They are pretty cheap quality. The buy it now is $10 dearer, which is worth it, considering one auction I saw went higher than the buy it now
