Saito marine engine now with macsteam boilerfinally got the saito 3 cylinder connected to the macsteam boiler
promising results have persuaded me to install this combination into the tugboat. watch the short video and please add your thoughts.

I do like the looks of those engines, I think you have a working combination.

That combination works well. What's the coil for? Is it destined to be a superheater or is it just using up spare pipe length? As it is, it's probably acting as a condenser and reducing the actual performance.

Are you going to put it in a hydroplane, if so it will certainly shift. It's certainly going better than the last time you tried.

yes i'm really confident it will cut through the water now.So sorting out the control mechanisms is the next job.

I think if you cut out the coil or, idealy, superheat it, the engine would go even better If you need that length of pipe in the final configuration, it would be best to lag it well.

Is it at all possible to mount the engine closer to the boiler and use a longer shaft inside the hull? Ideally you want that steam line as short as possible. To answer your question I have seen tightly wound string used as pipe insulation.

String is the traditional method, and it's difficult to beat for effectiveness. The main problem is the time it takes to wind it onto a long length, especially if the pipework is already installed.

it's a common practice to position the boiler within the hull for optimal balance in the water, and then route the chimney to the smokestack.

Gil | No the boiler and engine positions are more or less set in stone insulating with string shouldnt be a problem though

Many model hulls, especially tugs need extra weight added far in excess of the boiler's weight just to get the water line down to the water surface.
