I couldn't resist a posting a short clip of me redlining the Saito V4PR at 1bar; probably about 4,000 rpm. The instructions say it'll handle a maximum of 2.5bar and go to 7,000 rpm
I think I'll get a few more rpm from it when I superheat the steam and sort a couple of small leaks.

wow thats just impressive when it is out of the boat let alone inside
Caprice
That was quick, the humidity must be good for the plants too.

Sounds like a mad Hornet

I fitted a superheater today, and the engine is more refined on the dryer steam, also the v4 arrangement gives a very smooth power delivery and it self starts on the smallest pressure. It's definitely in my top 5 engines.

Very impressive, Miles!
IMHO a good marine steam plant is very hard to beat.....and that is certainly one of the better ones! You need to find a boat for it to drive.

I like that very nice

You can really see the engine in operation there Miles.
It's a pleasure to watch.
As has been said, it's crying out for a boat to power along.

I've quite a few boats knocking around, all in need of some kind of restoration, and none with engines.
I thought this freighter might be suitable for the V4PR, sympathetic to the engine's industrial feel. It's plank on frame, which, despite the tatty paintwork on the outside, is beautifully done. It should scrub up well, but I doubt I'll get around to this any time soon. The Stuart Torpedo Destroyer is further up the list of projects.

I found these pictures of a nice Morgan 3 wheeler powered by the Saito V4PR

very nice. i want one

After seeing it run slowly it's almost a shame to run it at a zillion RPM, it's poetry in motion, like many steam engines.

Looking at that beautiful Morgan 3 wheeler you wonder what giant started this thread?
