Santa steam train

this's an annual event -

the steam locomotive hauling the train was built in 1958.

Looks like it is a popular event needing that many carriages and they all looked pretty full.

By `ek! That`s a long Santa train!

I used to drive past the Roundhouse on my way to/ from work.
One of the nicest memories of that time was a regular Saturday Santa train, on the bridge, as I drove underneath.

Lovely green loco, 3 chocolate & cream coloured carriages, stuffed full of happy kids.

just bee over the allotment, next to leicester north (birstall) station on the great central railway, and saw the train as usual, think the santa specials have started now on it. there was a class 24 diesel at the front and a class 8f at the back, doing alternate pulls. hope to see it tomorrow so will look for santa on the footplate

I look at the top picture and see the difference between the Northern and Southern Hemisphere, the gentleman at the switch n the photo is wearing short pants and it was 22°F ( -5.5 C ) here this morning.

I fondly remember an Australian co-worker telling me that Christmas was his favorite summer holiday and getting puzzled looks from most of us Yanks.

That's the funny bit. I hear (and dream) about the US Spring breaks and Summer holidays, totally forgetting it isn't Christmas time there.

Over here the main holidays are about Mid December through to end of January. Just seems so normal that Christmas Parties, BBQ's and swimming go hand in hand.

Yes, my Aussie co-worker was amazed to actually experience a white Christmas.

A lot of people here would like one.

Some places even have "Christmas in July". About 2hrs drive from here up in the mountains there are a few places of accomodation, and in Winter it can snow. So they hold Christmas dinner in July for people to experience Christmas in the snow.

It's not really the best snow. Not soft and fluffy on the ground, but more like ice.

Where I live it rarely snows on Christmas, but sometimes it does. I think our worst snows are in Jan and Feb.

Looks to be a great outing Clinton
