Scorpion VidSorry about the quality of video, Next time I may set quality a bit higher.
In the video you can't hear the whistle this is due to the low quality compression I used.
The whistle works and sounds as good / bad as any other toy steam engine whistle.

Runs well, sounds nice! That flame outta the front is something to watch out for though!

A very nice deep noise

The flame out the front is because it does not have the proper burner.
I used the one that came with the engine just to test it which is basically a round tin with steel wool in it.
I have a proper 2 wick burner somewhere that is for my other non functional verticle engine, I just need to find it now.....

I know what you mean about the whistle tmuir, when I got my Wilesco Roller, my mum was hoping that it would be better than the TE1A, unfortunately for her it was higher pitched

I am pleased with the sound my Se1a sounds almost tinney when running.
My Luton Bowman sounds better but this one has the most 'solid' sound out of them all.

I'm amazed how good they sound. That's fantastic to say the very least.
I'm a mamod fan mostly, but that is the best sounding model engine I've ever heard.
Well done tmuir.
If you ask me it was a bargain price considering what steam engines go for here in Australia.
A shame there aren't more of them about.
Look forward to more vids of that one

I'm still debating on whether to polish it or not.
I will have to polish the cylinder as it has a big solder blob on it I want to get rid of.
There is next to nothing to do to this engine.
It needs new washers for the whistle and safety valve and there is a small ding on the opening of the firebox to remove but that is it.

Is it copper or Brass?
Either way, if it's not lacquered and esp if it's copper, it won't hurt to polish at all, as it'll probably get the aged look back pretty quickly.
Not that polishing hurts anyway.
If it's lacquered, I probably wouldn't polish it, only 'cos it may remove some of the lacquer, then you'll have to go through and remove all the lacquer.
Has such a great aged look to it

I'm guessing it isn't lacquered as I can see evidence of brasso in a couple of the more fiddly bits.
Unfortunately I can't remove the flywheel to polish it as it looks to be a push fit and I don't want to risk damaging it removing it. So I'll guess I'll just have to polish it inplace which will be a bit harder but not impossible.
Firstly I will soak the cylinder and pisten in a solution I bought a while ago for cleaning pocket watch parts. Perfectly harmless to brass and steel but really good at breaking down old grease and dirt, I use it on all the brass gears and screws I buy for my meccano and it works a treat.

I totally agree. Unless absolutely needed, I don't remove any pressed fit parts. It's not worth the hassle of hoping they will go back on ok.
I just polish around my MM1 flywheel.
I know my brother polished his bing with lacquer, and was lucky none came off. It's a case of all lacquer or none, cos they look terrible with part lacquer
Good luck mate
