Scratchbuilt engine almost complete

Here's a picture of my latest engine, a simple single-acting twin cylinder of my own design - I was aiming for a chunky workman-like appearance. It's 8mm bore x 13mm stroke.

Still got some bits to do (replace the readymade nuts & springs so it's 100% fabricated and add steam connections) but it's not far off.
MooseMan

That looks the business - very nice work! Does it run well?
Steve_S

Chunky and workman-like is exactly right. It looks very good, and I'll bet it has plenty of power for its size too. Good stuff!
Andy

well done deffienly look the business
tmuir

Hi, and welcome to the forum.
Looks good.
I also looked at your website last night and see you have made a couple of Stan Bray's engines.
I plan on having a go at them this year.

I look forward to your posts.
johnreid

that is so cool, you do great looking work. Welcome and please share more.

Hello and thanks for showing this Signal Success.

It is cool to see clean custom fabrication like yours.

More to come soon I hope!  Welcome!

Nice looking engine . Welcome to the forum from New Zealand , which part of the world are you from
SignalFailure

Thanks for the kind words and the welcome

Mooseman: It hasn't been steamed yet (no connections and boiler only part made at present) but it turns over wll using my custom running in method:- hold the flywheel against a thick rubber band slipped over the lathe chuck

tmuir: Just double-check everything with the Stan Bray book as some of the measuements are wrong (at least the metric plans that I've used). I used the basic dimensions from his 'Twinky' engine for this model but as you can see it's rather different in appearance! I also decided to make this one a 'solder-free' engine.

Cranko: I'm in England, but you can't have everything
Wallace

That looks great, and very solid.

... it looks no-nonsense, heavy duty and professional. Congrats, mate! And welcome to the forum!
bessytractor

hooray another scratchbuilder!

welcome to the forums, great engine, I have yet to make a twin cylinder one.
SignalFailure

Got it running on <5psi aquarium pump (although not in horizontal position yet   )

utterly marvellous!

the fact it runs on 5 psi shows it was well made in the first place, my two, granted a lot bigger but still, run happily on 20 psi.  I've never been able to throttle them down like that!

Well done!
SignalFailure

Cheers matey, glad you liked it!

Real nice, wish I was able to make things like that, I used a couple of Lathes at a job I used to have, I wish I had been into this hobby at that time. We had two Lathes, a Surface Grinder, and various other shop tools that would have been great for projects like that.
SignalFailure

Get yourself a $500 mini-lathe and the world's your oyster. Or something like that....
