SE1, cleaned and back together again.Picked up a new engine the other day, it looks pretty grotty in the flesh but I think it will clean up pretty well.
Are the nut for the steam pipe on the boiler and the funnel original to this model?

No need for a repaint on that one, just a good cleaning and it will be a beauty.

Wow that's a goodie! Even still has the nice oval decal!
|

That's in great condition

Really good condition, but other than waving an oily rag I wouldnt do anything to that one.
The funnel is certainly correct, I think the nut is as well.
The funnel has a nice piece of brass at the pipe end- really nice
I believe the Mazak wheeled SE flatbases were only made for a year or so before moving to the raised bases.

Glad you like it.
Took it to bits carefully today, as I do intend to give it a decent clean and since it was pretty mucky,I didn't think wiping over with rags would suffice.
I had to go fairly carefully as some paint had bubbled in certain ares and was lifting off in other areas.

Got it cleaned and put back together today.
Would anyone know what year it was made? it has 42/6 handwritten on the box, not sure if this is relevant.

That looks great! Doesn't need a repaint
I think oil would have lifted the paint off that base had it got right under it

Great job.

Kart90, I used green and blue solid (the stuff used on spinning mops) polish on a felt type pad applied by hand and brasso and a load of elbow grease on the boiler.
For the base and firebox, I used Autoglym SRP which is pretty gentle and fills well, and sealed that over with some Zymol Glasur which is a high quality Carnauba wax, it smeels lovely, bannanas and coconuts but very expensive. I was just experimenting really with products that I use on my car!
I went real steady with it all, I didn't want to dislodge anymore paint.
Atticman, the thought didn,'t even enter my head that the numbers could be the price so thanks for that suggestion, and the age!
Thanks all for the kind comments, a bonus when I've already had so much pleasure from cleaning it up.

It dates from 1953 as it looks to be a mazak flywheel.
