SE4 Boiler pressureHI
Does any one know the working pressure on an SE4 boiler.
My guess is 10 to 12lbs but would like to know for sure.
Made the first boiler Monday and hydraulic tested to 100psi with no probelms.

A tough one mate, around the 15-20 pound mark, you can adjust the safety valves on these a little so it can be varied slightly.
In my own experience the boiler and fittings give very good steam tightness, just a few turns of the cranks by hand on mine will produce enough compression to sound off the whistle went its opened.

Hi
thanks for tat i had a feeling the pressure would be under 20. il make the safety valves with a range between 10 and 20 psi.

Safety valves on all 'toy' steam engines are officially set to open at 14.5 PSI or 1 Bar due to safety regulations say steam toys can not have more than 1 atmosphere of pressure.
Don't know if that law was around when Se4s were made though.

Roughly 15 PSI, they were tested to 100 lbs apparently
As Mike said, the valves are adjustable slightly

All valves are adjustable slightly. They are dependent on the quality of the biro you steal the spring from.

YES AND NO. SE4s and earl;y Mamods/Hobbies and Bowmans had a spring retained by a threaded collar, thus the collar could be rotated on further increasing the compression on the spring and making the valve harder to open, thus increasing the boiler pressure. You can also put a stiffer spring in there.
