looks to me like a SE1. i love the look of "Mamod" stamped on the crank!

Thanks Steamyman -- this is where a picture gallery would be fabulous -- with the year and notable variations.

Looking though the forum we think we have possibly a late 50ies?? SE1 - superheated with the eyelet piston end and the word MAMOD on the flywheel - which is brass - looks different to the pictures I have seen. There is a hole for oil on the --- uuummm -- cylinder? thingy near the screw.

We didn't realise it was a nut and bolter so we are really pleased, and we also think it is the same as the one we won on the weekend. (To be honest we forgot we had this one coming and what a pleasant suprise) The base is in really good condition.

Should do up nicely. Cheers J-G

I forgot----the safety valve is an older type --bigger. J-G

Buying more engines than you can remember?! I think you have the worst case of mamoditus!
flywheel61

It's an SE1 1954-1967, with the rectangular decal, but probably from the 50's end of the scale because of the single peg on the water level plug. But on the other hand it looks like it takes a vapourizing burner so would be post 1958.

Cheers

I agree Chris about the Mamoditis. But now that we have a loco we are stopping. For a while anyway. Have to recouperate the bank balance.

This little SE1 might be 60ies ---would still be the earliest we have I think. Ohh well. G-J
Graham-Jilly

50ies would be nice -- Cheers G-J
sparky

thats lovely mate i really do like the look of that and as sandman said i love the stamped crank
SPOKESMAN

SE1 definatley. Certainly 1958 - on, model. Has screwed engine frame so no later than 1965, does it have the lamp? that will help date it too!
Mamodman123

Roughly 1958-1962 I don't think we can get any closer than that!

Actually, I think they cancelled out the barrell piston in roughly '59-'61

So somewhere between '59-'62 I think

Use a normal mamod vapourising burner if the base allows it. The MM2 will fit aslong as the base lets it
Graham-Jilly

thanks everyone
We will steam him up on the weekend and then give him a good cleanup. Will post some pics. Maybe try a video. Cheers G-J

Mamodman123

Runs like a treat that one does!

Should clean up very well
SPOKESMAN

A nice early small brass vap lamp would go nicely with that one!
Graham-Jilly

Is there a thread on the different types of burners with pictures ????
cheers g-j
Lewis

brass type burner
this one is from my uncles 58 se2

yosa

MM started a burner reference thread, I don't know how far he got with it, he definately got as far as the wick burners.
flywheel61

MM has a guide to nearly all burners, it's still in the steam library, I just checked it.

Cheers

Very nice indeed G-J. You've made a wonderful job of it.
Wallace

Fantastic GJ. That is a beautiful job.

I gotta run, so don't have a chance to get to read all the thread again, but what type of burner do you have to find? The pressed brass type?

Well done. Great job. Your cleaned engines make my cleaned ones look dirty

The repro ones are not worth buying and old ones are very hard to get one in OZ, but not too difficult from the UK as they come up all the time. Wallace and I got several new ones all steel ones recently, GPB 15-22.00. Trick is knowing if it's a brass one or just a steel one. Many times, on ebay, they are post to UK only but sometimes you can get the seller to relist as worldwide if you get in early, good luck.

Jilly, that's an absolute bottler of a job on that engine , great to see.

Cheers
Graham-Jilly

Well I fired it up and runs a treat
