sentinel and marshall

just reading through the STN (Sentinel Transport Newsletter), when i came across a photo of a sentinel/marshall steam roller, marshalls bought a selected number on sentinel boliers and many other parts to create this great machine, which i believe is the worlds largest steam roller, it tells you all the information on this brilliant enigne i will put up pictures and some more facts soon, the person who wrote the artcle is a valid friend and the sentinel records holder so i definatley know he knows what he's on about

p.s james i thought you would be quite interested in this piece of information
James

OK. I've no idea what the pictures are of, but it sort of fits the description.

Any pics of the one you saw?

no, forgot the camera when i went to that show. but whetever it was, it looked like the pics you posted, exept it had much smaller wheels, and was quite quick, i had a hard time keeping up with it jogging.

I've just found where I got those pictures. They were on the letters page of Old Glory Feb 2003. To quote from the letter:

"There were three of these rollers built by Marshall's, all using SuperSentinel engines and boilers. An article on the first of these rollers built for the Durham Water Board in June 1933 appeared in the Sentinel Transport News of September 1933. The letter from Mr H. D. Marshall to my father back in April 1968 gives details of the other two supplied to the Essex Water Board and the Corby & District Water Board in 1938."

So, there you are; it is a Marshal with a Sentinel boiler. It was designed for rolling embankments at a steep angle, hence the strange design and the use of the Sentinel boiler.
