G'day and Welcome!
I just joined a few weeks back myself. Great bunch here and a lot of info.
I don't know anything about the Mamod mobiles, but I do know that you can't go wrong with a decent Wilesco Old Smokey roller. Those are esbit only, unless you buy an alcohol burner (which I did, only it won't work with mine At least one other person here uses one with it, however).
The Wilesco has a double-acting engine, which gives it power to spare and the ability to run at quite a slow speed.

Welcome to the forum Sam,
The steam wagon you speak of is the SW1. The green ones are meths fired, and are possibly the best mobile Mamod produced. Meths fired models are deemed to be the best as the models run for longer and you get more runs out of a 500ml bottle of meths than one box of Solid Fuel which are normally the same price!
You are amongst friends here,
Si

Welcome Sam,
This is a great place to find out answers to questions simple and complex...LOTS of experience, but LOTS of willingness to share and help newbies along. In my 50's myself...we have steamers of all ages from really young to even older than us!!!
cheers from Indiana, USA,
Roger

Another welcome. The Mamod Steam Wagon has been made in three standard colours but it is really the same model. The green one is the oldest, then blue and then brown. The blue and brown are still being made.
The meths trays and Solid fuel trays can be swopped easily between engines, so go for the one you want.

Welcome aboard Sam, nice to have some more 'mature' members here - sadly I'm just ahead of you being (just) in my 60's!

Yup, a Green SW1 would be perfect, by far one of the best Mamods ever made

Hi Sentinel14,
I would love a Mamod wagon aswell but living in Australia the postage would just cost too much so I have to settle for smaller not so heavy models.
Welcome to the forum we have a wide range of members here from 13 to up into the 60s and possibly beyond.
