you need carrs green label sheet metal solder, some good flux and a 75 watt soldering iron if you want to solder brass sheet together.

Alternatively you can also silver solder it together with a blowtorch.

You can solder brass sheet together with a blow torch and soft solder.
Just make sure its spotlessly clean and use flux paste.

Electronics solder will do in a pinch but the resin core can get trapped inside the solder and lead to a weaker joint so solid soft solder used with flux paste is better. Aslo remember if using very thin sheet that too much heat can cause it to warp.

In the library section is a guide to soldering which was written by MM that may be helpful to you.

yeh thanks, just had a look and it sound easy enough, my dad is a plumber. the solder he uses is just plumbers solder which melts about 400 degrees, is this ok for something near the firebox? ill put up some plans of my intentions later.

400 degrees cels?

That would be fine for something on boiler, or anything holding steam, but if you are using it elsewhere, like on a firebox for a seam, where it won't be exposed to steam/water, just be careful as it might melt
Rob

400 degrees cel. ill have a go at doing it on a spare piece of brass, then on the hornplates and tender, also need to do some on the boiler.

Sounds good.

Good luck with it.

A member did do some firebox testing to see what temps they get to.

I just can't find the thread. But I think it was over 300 C
MamodFan

i soft soldered the boiler mount for my twin prototype and that melted

400 degrees c for soft solder is high, silver solder is only about 600
Rob

ill give dads plumbers solder a go first on some off cuts of brass. if i have any problems, ill post them here.
thanks for the help guys,
cheers
