solder

hi all,
some of you may have been following my build of a super-oscillator in the restoration section. Now that its working, I need to solder a steam pipe on the back. I need to solder a copper pipe to the steel engine frame, so which solder should I use? I have a blowtorch so can heat it all up ok, but solder is an issue.

all help greatly appreciated as always

Normal lead based plumbers solder should do the job fine without using excessive heat.

Just go down B&Q and get a roll

Just get solid core stuff not resin filled as resin can stay trapped inside the joint and make it weaker, but do get some flux paste to use with it.

Cleanliness is next to Godliness when soldering so make sure everything is spotless and use a good flux

You cant get a surface too clean before soldering, it is all according to the temperatures it will be used at as to what Solder is needed.
I dont think it needs to be Brazed or Silver Soldered though, anyone know the maximum temperature it would see?

Unless you use superheated or flash steam, not much more than 100C.....any plumbing solder should be able to cope with that.

Bessytractor, if it helps I use this stuff. I'm in oz, but judging by the language on the package, it's probably available in most countries.

I chose it as it's perfect for car radiators, which are similar pressures to Mamods. And the melting point is good, which is handled easily by my small blowtorch. The diameter of it is perfect for boiler end caps.

Never use the solder for electrical
