soldering wilesco regulators.

hi all i really need some help i have finally decided to fix my Wilesco D141, which the regulator was leaking so badly i took it out.

but i now have an issue.

1. I would love to have the older type metal regulator with the plastic handle.

so if anyone has one of these in there stores please message me, either for the D14 or D141

but in light of the fact they are getting very rare i think i am going to have to go for the more modern all plastic one. Which in my eyes is awful, it looks really cheap but anyways, here is the devil below.

now I had to use one of these in the past and never got on with them. Because in the instructions is states you should never remove the valve from the housing but surly you have to in order to solder but when i put it back in it leaked. Has any one used one of these before, if so could you do a short how to?
Many thanks in advanced

Why not buy a good globe valve and fit that inline as it would be far easier to handle and they don't have the plastic handle.

Wise Words

Those plastic-valves really are such cheap crap, and Wilesco ought to be ashamed of selling them, better to have charged a Euro more per engine and have kept the old valves than this.
I bought a couple myself some time ago to see if the plastic really did work...it dont...they turn badly and if you massage them to work smoother they start leaking

These valves and whistles are a total no-go for me, but at least they can help making the older Wilescos even more collectible

Not metric?
kevininasia

Yeah the pipework will definitely be metric. Probably 4mm, although I don't have it in front of me to measure.

I agree with the globe valve suggestion. That would be a great improvemnt to an already very nice engine.

I must admit the plastic regulators are pretty awful and i don't know what Wilesco were thinking when they changed to those.

A globe valve would be a much better bet.

I have had nothing but trouble out of the older steam valves right be for going to the one that is a lot of plastic. The get real loose and have a mind of there own do to the vibration. I think the Wilesco is about the same OD as Jensen not sure but if you need me to I can check. But here is my Jensen #95 I put a globe valve on as the stock one leak so much it would drop to 10 PSI and would not run. Here it is with the globe valve I put on it.

I all so put one on my Jensen 20 with a displacement oilier.

A lot of the tapered valves, like Jensen, only need a drop of steam oil on them once in a blue moon to keep them sealed.

I have tried that and the one on my 95G leaked so bad you would see the steam not water coming out. It would not even hold 10 PSI. I even tried lapping it with some fine lapping compound but only lasted one or two runs. Sorry to say it was just made poorly. Jensen JR was on his yearly Europe vacation for two weeks and after just spending $700 I wanted it back ruining right away. When I had to send back my new 20 that went back the same day I received it he took two weeks to fix after he received it.

I oil all my steam valves but they will not ever seal as well as a globe valve and how many 95Gs have people seen at wide open the pressure keeps rising? Mine does. I would not do this to my old Jensen s.
Thanks
