Some bad news from STIA2008Hi Guys,
This is the time of the year when I write the guide so that it can get to the printers in time for all the pageing errors etc to be sorted out. This means that I have to make some decisions about who goes where on the day. Give or take a few minor adjustments and all the local stuff like electricity and so on. Naturally everyone wants to be in the Big Shed which will take around 55 tables. The problem this year is that I have a requirement for about 62 tables in that area so far. Clearly there is a problem and I usually scatter the surplus exhibitors into any small spaces around the museum we can cram them into. Perhaps fortunately this year we are a bit down on Dealers so there is some free space available in the marquee.
It seems to me that the only fair way of allocating who goes where is in order of receipt of application form. It seems reasonable that forms received after the closing date should qualify for the less attractive accomodation.
In terms of ForumA members this means that
James Huntley
Roly Williams
Mike Sleigh
Ian Grantham
James Kite
Benjamin Steel
Will be in the Big Shed probably at the top end rather like last year
And
James Chantry
Tom Yerburgh
Mark Thornton
Lewis Parkes
Steve Haworth
Will be clustered together in the Marquee
Members already having sharing arrangements (ie Sandy) may settle in on either as accepted by the tableholders.
You may like to come to some arrangements among yourselves but I would like to know beforehand or we will get some awful confusion
See you Sunday week

Hi Guys,
Mark Thornton (H20),
I have been doing STIA for the last about 10 years that I can remember, part of that time as a Dealer.
I have stood in the big shed, Markee, over in the School when that was being used - all very good.
There is no other event like this in the year!! it is simply the best. Fred and his people do an amazing job and must be organizing and planning for months. I for one value this and their efforts.
There is no way I am missing this event or giving up on it, I will be there, failing the end of the earth. Lets get it together, put a bloody good show on and have a good day. The tent is warm ,well lit, and very friendly.
See you there!!
H20

Well done Lewis
At the end of the day it really does not matter where our stands are, everyone has preferences for sure but the main thing is we will all be attending. Fred and his team are going to be extra busy this year with all the extras so lets just make his job as easy as possible.
It will be one hell of a steam up that is for certain and I can't wait.

No,
I have known about the event for a few years through a good friend. It is a very long way to travel from Sunny Sussex and things have always conspired against me attending, family, transport, Scouting to name but a few. After reading the reviews of last years event here I decided then that I must make concerted effort to go. I have had to move a Scout camp to April this year so that I can go.

Back to topic.
Considering that the forum only displayed at the STIA for the first time last year, it's really gratifying to see so many of our members both exhibiting and visiting.
It's going to be funny though as we all know each other by our forum names.
I remember last year trying to imagine a conversation. Could go like this.
Hey Moose.
What
Where's MM??
He's with Griffin, they went to see Titan.
Isn't he with Sandman??
No, he went off with Steamyjim.
Are you sure, I thought he was with Dauntless.

That's right Simon it was frightfully blustery and the umbrella stand was full when I arrived (Wet & Windy for the Northerners)
Fortunately the Port warmed me up a treat I thought the canapes between the running of each engine was a nice touch. We must ask the gate staff to be a bit more careful who they let in. I saw someone had brought a Wilesco

Patience my children, all will be revealed when I get down to doing the detailed table arrangements. As I have said before I have allocated certain people to certain areas . If they have come to individual reallocations fair enough but the Master Plan will take no account of this. I shall , as a special favour to the Forum (Forum A that is) publish, on the Forum, a list of who is where and how much space they should have. If they then want to indulge in a little horse trading on posititions within themselves I will not stand in their way. The ultimate aim is to give everyone a good time, make a small profit for LMTA, and entertain the public. Win-Win all round?

Hmm - interesting. Apparently, the city of Bristol gained county status back in the middle ages and retained that status until it was incorporated into Avon - an unpopular move which didn't last long. It has now regained it's county status, situated between Somerset and Gloucestershire.
