Some Meccano MotorsJust a pic of some Meccano Motors my Dad owns.
Inspired by Lewis's Vid of a meccano motor running
Firstly 2 Homemade Motors, made by my brother.
One on the left is a motor from a Makita rechargeable drill. The controller for it is the makita battery charger. Modified for forward/reverse and using a dimmer switch for speed control. It's a very powerful motor
Don't know what motor the one on right is from.
A selection of clockwork motors. He has more but I couldn't find them. Minor differences in them can help put a date on them, much like dating Mamods
Some meccano electric motors/gearbox.
From left is a meccano motor. 2nd one with universal shaft is a gearbox. 3rd is an never been used motor with built in gearbox. He has 4 of these. 5th is a 20volt Meccano motor. Very Very powerful. He has 4 of these too, 3 work. I think this motor is used in the Meccano Showmans
These are 2 Buz motor's. A Aussie equivalent of Meccano. They run off 6volt, and with the gearing setup shown in pic, you literally cannot stop the axle that large gear is on with you fingers
And finally his 2 Meccano Steam engines. He just needs a SP3. I will admit that the majority of the electric motors seem to be much more powerful than the steam ones. but give me the steam engines any day

Four E20R that just greedy!!!
I would love to get just one but they go for around 50 pounds last I checked

Very interesting pictures Wallace. I particularly like the Buz motors... they look very handy! I had a bit of luck when I bought a Meccano No2 clockwork motor on eBay. The seller emailed me to say that he also had two E20R's and a E020 that I could have for another £12! Naturally I said yes.....

That's a great score, that's for certain.
Dad's are E20r's? I wasn't sure, he wasn't home when I took pics. I took pics, and wiped my fingerprints off motors.
I know the 2 E20's he got were from job lots, just kinda lucky scores. Other 2 were from him, or my brother when they were kids.
The yellow unused meccano motor cost him $70 in a newcastle hobbyshop last year. It and it's box were faded from being on display for about 12yrs
I can ask if he wants to sell one tmuir, a working one.

Here's some of my Meccano motors, including the E20R's and E020 I mentioned above.
On the back row, a clockwork No.2, a pre-war non-reversible No.1, a post-war reversible No.1, and a No.1A. Middle row, a blue Magic, a black Magic, and three electrics from the early seventies. Front row, two E20Rs and an E020.

What is the E020 motor like Steve?
I've seen them here reffered to a "meccano cricket ball motor".
Not sure if it were a proper name, or nickname, or totally made up

I've not run the E020 much, other than to check that its working Ok, but I gather that they had a reputation for being not very powerful, and for tending to overheat, so I think that the E20R and E15R are much better motors for practical purposes. The E020 looks good though... easy to see where the cricket ball name came from!

I have a 120 volt pencil sharpener motor that i have adapted to meccano, only problem is you are stuck to the wall!!! Powerfull motor, no gearing and it will eat through your hand
