Some modelsOk, first of all a crane made out of a number 8 set, from the 60's. Strangely enough the older the set, the more parts. ie, a number 8 set from 70's wouldn't make this crance, not enough parts.
I've been waiting for him to say he is going to pull it apart, so I can borrow and adapt a steam engine to it. Great gearing in it, but I couldn't get a photo.
An old cra, wind up motor, that could be adapted to a MEC1 engine with a few alterations
And a parking lot Dad did. Yup, he loves Minis

Love the crane Wallace. I could play with that all day.

Yeah it's not bad at all. Strong too. Uses an older meccano electric motor (motor pics coming tomorrow possibly).
Gearing is intricate. Even all the pulleys the string runs through get's complicated.
The steering wheel at the bottom of the crane turns the whole crane around.
I forgot to add. The base the whole thing sits on, all the rectangle plates, and the fence isn't part of the set 8 it was built from. Dad added them.
and "cra" in my original post is meant to be car

I really like the Crane Wallace, I think that's a fantastic Meccano model . It just goes to show what can be made with this remarkable stuff!
One day, I may have a go myself at something like that

Top stuff Wallace. Can the crane lift and SE3?
|
Wallace

Yeah it's one of my favourite models, the crane.
Not sure if it'd lift a SE3 Mike. Might try it.
I'll try do a scan of the instructions for the gearbox in it tomorrow or Sunday

Id really like to see the gearbox workings - may give me some ideas how I can get some extra power from my SP3 crane!

Ok Mike, will try get the scan.
Those early instructions certainly take some effort in reading to work out pics.
I know a chain drive is used in it, I think from the motor to first sprocket.

I gotta get a chain, managed to get a sprocket on my SP5 - see the thread on cogs and sprockets.

At least I know Meccano shafts are 4mm and Mamod 5mm.

Good note to my own little Mamod reference.

Cheers mate.
No that you mention it, I had a plastic version too.
Dad has still kept both of those models, on display. He was going to pull them apart ages ago
