Spring Belt - How to make it stay!

Recently changed a drive belt on my D32, but the thing keeps pulling apart at the joint.  Tried repeatedly and it just keeps falling appart.  Do you just kinda twist them in, or maybe a bit of glue... I dont know...

using the standard wilesco spring belts...

Thanks,

Peter

i put some glue on mine, and it worked fine.
Les

I twist each end the opposite way to each other, then put it together so as it untwists, it locks against its self. The only problem is I can never get them undone again.
Lewis

dont they just screw the ends together like mamod belts ?
mc_mc

Simply twist in, then superglue.

Works for me...

I do as Les suggests.  Twist the ends in the opposite direction whilst they are still free and then unwind the twist as you put the ends together.  Screwed together for ever and no need for glue.

I have found the Wilesco ones seem to come apart much more easily than the Mamod ones.  The best Mamod ones are NOS but failing that Chas & Forest offer new replacements of both types.  The Mamod ones tend to be finer/ narrower which are needed for the early MM1 engines and some tools I've found
Mister Occlusion

I do the same as Les.

Though on my D22 the ones going to the transmission come apart always when under load, so I am switching to Jensen belts on it.

Wilesco belts all eventually separate, I find, when driving a very heavy load.  Mine also tend to get oil polluted, which probably does not help.

Always wear glasses when running with spring belts.  The buggers fly off in just about any direction when they let go, but most often at the face, it seems.  I wear my face shield, usually....
Nick

Put hooks on the ends like the Jensen ones.

Try waxed Dental floss mate- amazlngly strong, cheap, works a treat

... yeah, I did the same: Kinda screwed he ends together, and secured them with a tiny drop of super glue. Don't use too much, or the joint will become to stiff, and the revolutions will become a "bumpy" ride.
Even more efficient, durable and realistic would be the use of this, instead of the belt spring. I'm unsure of the correct English word for these:

I am going to be trying out the waxed dental floss too (when I have a friggin' engine that may be run!)

Waxed like beeswax = won't/can't slip

Supple as silk =  perfect compliance with pulley conditions and NO wrap-around internal frictional loss of power to the "belt" stiffness
(o-ring belts have some stiffness, for instance).

Dental floss, super strong, super cheap, super grip: all that appeals to my mind.

I'll never floss again except on steam.
