SR1 leaking

G'day Guys---
I just fired one of my Sr1s and it's leaking water from somewhere at the bottom of the front end of the boiler. Is this a known problem? Do I need to remove the complete front to cure it?
verithingeoff

Inquisitive soul that I am, I just poured some water down the chimney and sure enough the water leaked as shown. Non of my othere SR1s do it?---
Wallace

If the leak doesn't seem to be under pressure, it is probably just steam condensate building up in the smokebox from the exhaust.
The riveted band isn't always watertight.

Even putting some water down the chimney will show if it is a condensate leak

Edit: Just saw you tried that. That's good news that it isn't a proper leak

IF you can do so without blocking the pipes, a small amount of Silicone inside the chimney would cure it

CA (superglue) works wonders on cracked cylinder walls which are under some pressure...I should think if you could clean out the crack area well, drip in a few drops of CA and it will seek out the leak and plug it.  Might take a couple of applications, but the stuff is amazing, just watch not to get it on the paint if possible.

I believe it is the base of the chimney that is leaking, best to get it taken care of as corrosion will eventually take its toll. Do not seal the bottom where it is coming out as you want it to drain out,.

Has anyone got a pic or 2 of an SR1 front end in bits? IE with the base of the chimney seperated from the boiler.---
BK

Yep, no problem.

You'll find the boiler ends just in front of the steam outlet pipe, the rest is for condensation, I tip mine out the chimney after each run.

That's great BK, just what I wanted---

What's the hole at the top of the boiler, just to the right of a rivet?---
AzRob

Don't tell me you're making a tubed Mamod...
BK

That is actually the bottom of the boiler, and the hole lets the water flow between the cavity in the front of the boiler and the smoke box (under the chimney)
