SR1 N&B (1962). …Cleaned up nice

Well got up early, and as its a nice sunny day here I decided to shoot off a few shots in the garden of the Mamod SR1 I just receved and cleaned up yesterday.

After a good washing with mild soapy water and a fair bit of brasso and elbow grease, its come up a treat.

Now to start that monster of a  "Wells TE"
Wallace

Wow, well done with that cleanup, and purchase.

I can't beleive the condition it's in    Not even the chrome has pitted.

A beautiful example
bessytractor

that chrome is a joy to look at, well done
Manxman

A perfect bloody model. Very nice. Now get back to cleaning that Wells. We want it looking just as good.

Looks great   really in top condition. Will go well with your TE1

Very nice indeed Steve, the chrome is perfect on that one.

If you get chance, please post a pic of you TE1 with the roller, they will look perfect together.

Funny you say I should post a picture of my SR1 N&B and my TE N&B together!

It’s long been an ambition of mine to re produce the picture on page 54 of the Mamod Bible, its the one with the TE and SR1 together.

NOW at last I can... watch this space in the next couple of weeks

Great looking engine, fantastic condition.

I want one just like it.
Les

That has come out very nice as well, the thing is though, are you going to steam it??
Kritika

Not sure Les,

Still not decided if its one of those that are just too rare to steam. I have other similar SR1’s that I steam instead.

Still I may do it anyway....

Go on, you know you want to

I must admit, I have yet to steam the one I have, and it is not as nice as your's.
Atticman

Thats really good, will sure complement the TE1 as well, what a great collection youre getting.

How did you clean the chrome on yours ?

I can understand your worry re steaming it, the chrome does get singed

Just warm soapy water and a toothbrush, to clean the chrome cowling mate!

I have searched for ages for one with a good chrome cowling, as I have a 1961 with a realy bad cowling   (see my website).

I find that is the part that always goes on these early models, and their is nothing you can do about it. So the condition of the cowling is the bit I concentrate on when I am thinking of buying one.

That sure did clean up nicely, I will have to get another some day, all of these beautiful pictures of yours dont help my pocketbook though as it makes me surf Ebay more often.

Elbow Grease
