Stage 1 Part A CompleteStage 1 Part A has been completed of my Workshop construction epic.
The foundations have been laid for my 2.4 by 2.4m shed to be built.
On this coming Thursday the shed will be getting installed.
Then I need to build some shelving it it and transfer everything from my bigger wooden shed into it.
This is my old shed.
Once the wooden shed is empty I need to demolish it.
Have a 800mm high retaining wall build to the left of it and the ground raised but before I can build the retaining wall I need to have the tree to the left of the shed chopped down.
Once the wall is built and backfilled and after council approval I will be getting a 5 by 4 meters workshop built on the ground of the old 3 by 3m shed.
I then need to get electricity put in it and then I will finally have my workshop.
Hopefully I will have enough money left over to buy a lathe aswell.

My workshop was one of the best things I ever invested in Tony.
Can I just make a small suggestion??
Try to leave enough room for a small beer fridge in a corner somewhere.
(Saves running back to the house on a warm summers day.)

Yes a while back I started counting them. I only included the ones that actually have a trunk and not the 25 year old 'seedlings', after I got past 60 or 70 I gave up.
For those peole not familiar with 'blackboys' or thier PC name 'Grasstrees' or their botanical name 'Xanthorrhoea'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xanthorrhoea
To buy a grasstree with about a 60cm trunk costs about $200 with a 1.5 meter trunk one costing over $500
I once worked out if I dug up all the grass trees on my block and sold them I could just about pay off my mortgage.

Hapy days with the new workshop Tony.
The old shed looks like the cooler in "Bridge on the River Kwai".

Stage 1 Part B complete
I now have my storage shed built.
Stage 1 part C involves buying shelving for the shed and then shifting everything from old shed into new shed.
Then its onto Stage 2 part 1: Council approval of Workshop.

Looking good Tony, good luck with the Council mate.

The council shouldn't really be a problem and I've got a trick to speed it through.
There are a few issues that the council will have to write to my neighbor to check he is ok with before it is built and I've already spoken to him about these issues and he is going to write a letter saying he is happy with what I want to do for me to attach to the application which should help it get through a bit faster.
They are only minor issues.
I want the workshop made out of colourbond not wood like my house which I have to get council ok on.
The shed will be approx 2 to 3m from my property boundry, standard set back where I live is 6 meters from side boundary and door to shed will open towards neibours house which I need to have approved as its closer than 6 meters from boundry.
Most other suburbs you wouldn't even need council approval for those issues. Money raising excerise for my local council.

good luck mate, as yosa said good luck with the council down in bedfordshire its the most biggest pain with the council we've been fighting 3 years to put another shed up for our sentinel (and hopefully some other aquirements in the very near future) cant say yet but there will be pictures of two more things on here soon

You got power in there?
|
tmuir

No power in the little shed but this one is just for storage.
The big workshop will have power and lights and maybe even running water.
Otherwise I would look pretty silly trying to use all my power tools.

Finally getting something done about my workshop.
Had someone over on Friday night to measure up to give me a quote for the retaining wall I need to build before I can get my workshop.
The wall is going to probably cost me $3500 to $4000, a bit more than I wanted to pay but still within my budget.
Hopefully I can get that started in the next few weeks and if all goes well I'll have my workshop before Christmas with just enough money left over to buy myself a new lathe.

OOOOOOH what lathe?

Only a smallish one and probably be a Chinese one as thats what will fit my budget.
Either something like this
http://www.carbatec.com.au/store/...index&cPath=180_380_2460_2461
but not from this shop as I know another supplier that will give a much better price or another brand that is slightly bigger and better whose name escapes me at the moment and I cant be bothered to try and find the catalogue right now.

Got the quote today, it was a little bit higher than I was expecting but still ok.
Had the tree surgeon around today and he dropped the half dead tree that was in the way and so hopefully the retaining wall will be started in the next couple of weeks, so next week need to go down and get a new quote for my workshop and pay a deposit so they can get the plan into my local council and hopefully have that approved by the time the retaining wall is finished.
Happy days.
