Start of a homebuildHi, I went to my local scrapyard yesterday I picked up some supplies for a homemade steam engine, the scrapyard also sells new brass, and bronze pipe, elbows, fittings etc
the bore is 5/8, and usually for these engines you have to machine the piston, because the inside diameter of the pipe is not a standard size, but this pipe was exactly 5/8 inside which was a lucky find, i also a 5/8 stainless steel piston with a very good seal. I got my idea for the design from these plans

I said i got my idea from this because im not using the exact plans, im going change some of the specs, here's some pics

some small progress made. Drilled the steam chest/ intake, and cut off the end of the pipe.
the valve hole is 1/4 in (2nd picture). and the intake is 5/32(the smaller hole on top in the 1st picture)
You can see the intake hole for the inside of the end cap

i see ..... question?????...... are you going to run it on steam or air.????? i can see it running well on air but on steam.?????

Both, it will run on air or steam, all parts are metal and will work just as good on steam. It's single acting, so it wont have the low-end torque a double acting engine, but it's a fairly large bore engine so it should still have some power for stuff like a generator,
