Steam in Austria October 2007My most recent steam tour overseas was to Austria with Steam Loco Safari Tours. This was a new country for me and we had steam on standard gauge, narrow gauge, rack railway and on the Danube.
Still waiting for the return of my slides, and that SCSI card is still in my old computer, so here are 2 items for your interest.
First is a video of a unique runpast - a Paddlesteamer and Steam train both in the same shot. It's 5 mins long so apologies to any dial-up members.
We had 3 seasons in the week, started with Summer, Autumn arrived the day before the above video, and on our last day we had about 2 feet of snow on the Schafbergbahn! We were very fortunate to be allowed up the mountain (just under halfway as the ABT rack railway was getting clogged with snow and not safe to go any further) as the railway does not run in Winter, and we actually got to photo the snowplough clearing fresh snow. Still waiting for those slides but this will give you a feel for what it was like. And this was the 21st of October 2007!
Class 999.1 0-4-2RT built 1893/1894.
Enjoy!

That was a relaxing video
We just had snow this morning for the first time. Heavy wet stuff... It did not last long. Never a particularly good sign when the snow arrives before Halloween...

Thanks, Chris! I loved the video - have travelled on the Schönbrunn once! Will never forget that ... another trip you might like would be over the "Semmering" alpine pass crossing.
Glad you enjoyed your stay,
