STEAM TRAIN DRAMAvintage 1930s locomotive ground to halt in Grimsby today after going through a stop signal.
The driver of the Green Arrow - a 1936 steam engine on a chartered journey from London to Gainsborough - was immediately relieved from duty following the incident at 2pm today.
It happened below the Cleveland bridge on Gilbey Road.
The train finally moved again at 3.20pm after Network Rail workers had assessed the situation.
Nobody was hurt and no damage was caused.

No one wants to put a price on a life, but unfortunately when making investment decisions you are forced to.
Eg. you have £10 million to spend on safety, and two schemes costing £10 million to spend it on. One might save 10 lives, one might just save one life. So logically you spend your £10 million on the scheme which will save the most lives. But by doing this you are effectively saying that you think a life is worth £1 million but not ten!!!
So when you have many more schemes, you have to have a bench mark figure for the value of a life, to ensure that the money spent will save as many lives as possible.

OTMR is just like black box (Bright orange normaly) data recorders on air craft. TPWS Tiddly Piddly Widdly Switch or Train Protection and Warning System cost £12000 when we fitted it on the big blue bucket.
The deltic was done at barrow hill so we didnt have anything to do with that but as its basicaly 2 locos in 1 so has to be set up in the same way as the Western and multiple units as such so requires a more complex system and obviously more expense.

yeh should imagine the fitting would cost alot. With the TPWS on the 40 it was all volunteer work so its free. the £12000 was just the materials and the testing etc. Barrow hill did the OTMR though havnt got a clue what it cost.
