STIA Portable Layout rules and procedures

Bit of a work in progress, but I am drawing up something to hopefully make sure all goes well on Sunday!

Please feel free to comment!

There will be a Loco Roster, with half hour running slots, starting at 15 min intervals ie. no more than two locos in steam at one time.

I am afraid I will not be taking advance bookings, sign upon the day, first come first served!!

Whilst the exhibition opens at 13:00, it is expected that everyone will be set up at 12:00 so as to have an hours play etc. before the general public get in. The first available slot will therefore be 12:00 meaning a total of 19 slots will be available until close of play at 17.00. I will be running Titan first, partly to test the layout etc, which should be from 11:45 (ish) to 12:15

I expect as a minimum the roster will require you to fill in brief details of your loco, e.g. Titan (Mamod), and also to print and sign your name. Signing on the roster means that you have accepted and agree to be bound by the following rules:

1. You have sole responsibility for the safe operation of your loco. This covers all aspects, including making sure that you are happy that the layout is suitable for the operation of your loco. If you have any doubts at any time as to the safe operation of layout and / or your loco, you must cease running until the problem is remedied.
2. The layout owner or controller will not be held responsible for any event arising from failure to adhere to the above rule.
3. The layout owner or controller reserves the right to prohibit you running on the layout in the event of you not abiding by the rules. The layout owner or controller will not be held responsible for any event occurring as a consequence of failing to prohibit running.
4. You may start preparation of your loco and raising steam up to 15 mins prior to your booked running time. For this purpose the inside loop line may be used, and you can test run up and down to clear water from cylinders, allow engine to warm up etc.
5. You must cease your run at the booked time if the next locomotive is ready to run. At the discretion of the layout controller, you may start early or finish late, depending on whether the previous loco has finished, or the next loco is not yet ready.
6. The outer line is the main running line. If your loco needs attention, out of courtesy you should divert on to the inner running line, stopping at the station platform if appropriate. This will allow the other loco a clear run whilst you are busy.
7. Care must be taken if two locos are mobile simultaneously to avoid collisions.

There will also be a selection of rolling stock available, but you are welcome to bring your own - adds a little variety!

SOUNDS GOOD TITAN,
Ill have to come up and see this !!
steamyjim

what gauge is the layout? 32 mm or 45 mm?

it probaly says somewhere but i dont no where
Titan

Its 32mm (O gauge)
steamyjim

dam i run 45mm oh well
Titan

If anyone wants to check out what the layout is like, just look in the portable layout thread under 'locomotives'
fcrammond

The only 45 mm track we have booked in is a "turn of the last century" tinplate circuit running Bing and Marklin "storklegs". I am very interested in having a more modern narrow gauge 45mm layout at future STIAs so if you have any ideas or contacts i would be well pleased to hear them.
As it is we should have:-
3.5 inch Hornby rockets
45 mm Gauge 1 tinplate
32 mm SM32 Mamod Steam Railway X 2
32 mm Gauge 0 Bowman & Basset Lowke x 2
16.5 mm Ministeam
16.5 mm Hornby Live Steam

All up on the Beam Floor. Don't miss it.

Obviously you got sufficient interest in people bringing their Hornby Rockets
steamyjim

can i ask who is running hornby 00 live steam beacause i have a hornby 00 steam set and 00 ministeam
Mamodman123

Think you've covered everything there Titan!
SPOKESMAN

What about signalling . . . . .

Yeah with my hands Mike

Jack Thwaites is bringing Hornby Rockets and 00 gauge live steam, Steve Cheshire has Bowmen, Basset Lowke and Ministeam. With those two we hardly need anyone else but really the more the merrier.
By all accounts you will be very lucky to see either of the 00 gauge versions working. I understand they can be very shy.

Has anyone got a link/pics to these Ministeam engines, I don't think I've heard of them before
Titan

I wonder if there will be a market growing for performance improvements to these OO locos, in a similar way to that of mamods?

Oh and back on the subject of the Layout, I think I will reserve one of the slots for Titan at some time convenient for Sandman, for the specific purpose of doing some film shots. Could be Fun!!

Another fun thing to try could be Mamod double headers!!

Ive managed to get Rosa going thank god! I had it running a fw times round the track tonight, outside in the cold. It went ok! Pulled a couple of open wagons around and i'm happy!
don't expect too much from her though
steamyjim

will the people running 00 live steam let other exhibitors run locos on them? because im coming up with a freind whos exhibiting and may bring my hornby one up if i can run it
fcrammond

You'd have to ask them on the spot. I imagine the response would be favourable. Obnoxious types don't get invited to STIA twice!
Cheers
